NOAA Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year 2025 © House Science, Space, and Technology Committee

Last week, during the Environment Subcommittee Hearing of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology ("An Overview of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year 2025") members of Congress questioned NOAA Administrator Dr Richard Spinrad on the agency's proposed expansion of the 2008 North Atlantic Right Whale Vessel Strike Reduction rule.

The members pressed Dr Spinrad on whether NOAA included industry input in the drafting of the rule, how the rule would be enforced, and how NOAA plans to protect right whales without hurting coastal economies.

From METSTRADE, Terry Hutchinson, the highly experienced Skipper and President of Operations for New York Yacht Club American Magic, will inspire an international audience of leading marine professionals as the scene is set for the show's first day on 19 November in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Twice named US Sailing's Rolex Yachtsman of the Year, lifetime competitive sailor Hutchinson participated so far in five America's Cup Campaigns and has won 17 world championships. He is also acknowledged by his peers as a proven master in forming and managing the multi-disciplined shore and on-water teams required for any successful sailing campaign.

Tickets are now on sale for this year's Newport International Boat Show presented by BankNewport. New for this year, the Windward VIP Lounge Experience will debut at #NIBS24. The Show will be held September 12-15 at the Newport Yachting Center Marina in downtown Newport, Rhode Island.

Parker Offshore proudly announces the addition of three high school interns to its esteemed team. This strategic move underscores Parker's commitment to fostering local educational collaborations and providing valuable learning opportunities within the industry. Parker has partnered with the Carteret County Public Schools and the CAPE Program (Careers and Partnerships in Education) to select from local high school students showing interest in gaining career-developing experiences. Three East Carteret High School students were chosen after an interview and selection process. All three students possess a passion for marine engineering and a drive for excellence.

Steve Colgate, founder and Chairman of Offshore Sailing School, is pleased to announce that, after a long search for a new builder for the popular Colgate 26 keelboat, Tartan Yachts of Painesville, Ohio has been selected. Known as "A Boat for All Reasons," the Colgate 26 is designed by renowned naval architect Jim Taylor and Olympic and America's Cup sailor Steve Colgate who mandated that it be fast, fun, safe and unsinkable with big boat characteristics that make it easy to transition to larger boats.

Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) have named Andy Thompson president of its Aluminum Boat Group division effective immediately. Thompson will oversee all commercial and operational aspects of the Aluminum Boat Group division, which includes brands Harris, Crestliner, Lund, Lowe, Thunder Jet and Princecraft. Thompson succeeds Dirk Hyde who will be retiring later this summer after more than 30 years with the company.

At the 2024 National Women's Sailing Conference held at the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) and the National Women's Sailing Association (NWSA) honored Jerelyn Biehl with the Leadership in Women's Sailing Award, recognizing her record of achievement in inspiring, educating and enriching the lives of women through sailing. Biehl learned sailing from her parents and as a teenager absorbed all things boating at her father's marine store.
