Torqeedo, the global market leader for electric mobility on water, is proud to be an official sponsor of the Kiel Week regatta this year.

The largest summer festival in Northern Europe takes place in Kiel, Germany from 22-30 June, 2024, and attracts more than 3 million visitors each year. A variety of sailing regattas will take place throughout the week, bringing around 4,000 sailors from 50 nations to the Bay of Kiel. This year, visitors to Kiel Week will be able to experience and test the powerful new Travel XP motor and other quiet electric Torqeedo motors on the water in Kiel Schilksee's south promenade.

"Kiel Week is one of the most important events in Germany for water sports and the maritime industry in general. We are proud to be an official sponsor of this year's event. You can see that the people here value water as an important part of nature and life. Together with our partner everwave, we are taking action to make the world's oceans cleaner. For every nautical mile sailed in the coming days, everwave projects around the globe will be retrieving 2kg of waste from the oceans. A great way of connecting this fantastic event with our company values of pleasure, power, and respect," says Matthias Vogel, Senior Vice President of the Customized Solutions Business Unit at Torqeedo.

Sailing for clean oceans

The climate protection city of Kiel has set itself the goal of reducing emissions of climate-damaging greenhouse gases by at least 95 percent by 2025 compared to 1990 levels and halving final energy consumption. To achieve this, the city is focusing on alternative drive solutions in all areas of mobility. This now includes three all-electric passenger ferries in the public ferry service on the Kiel Fjord.

Another partner of Kiel Week is the international organisation everwave, which fights the pollution of the world's oceans due to plastic and other waste using garbage collection boats and a holistic cleaning concept based on AI. In order to set an example for clean oceans together with Torqeedo and Hasytec Electronics AG, a leading company in the green tech sector, everwave will collect 2kg of waste for every nautical mile sailed during the event. The goal is to collect 14,000 kg of waste out of waters worldwide.

Emission-free cruising on the Kiel Fjord

Torqeedo's product portfolio includes a range of electric and hybrid propulsion solutions and energy management systems: the new Travel family for small recreational boats, the highly efficient Cruise systems for sailing and motorboats up to twelve tonnes, and the modular Deep Blue systems for larger boats and yachts up to 120 feet.

"We are pleased to present our latest innovations to the water sports community. You can test our electric motors for yourself on the fjord. As the world's market leader with more than 250,000 installed systems, we have been promoting electric mobility on the water for 19 years and always strive to create unique experiences on the water - all while respecting our human and natural environment," says Matthias Vogel, Senior Vice President of Torqeedo's Customized Solutions Business Unit.

Test drives and product presentations

Visitors to Kiel Week will have the unique opportunity to test Torqeedo motors on the Kiel Fjord.

The powerful Travel XP outboard motor is the heart of the new Travel Family and with an electrical input power of 1600W is ideal for heavier boats up to 2 tonnes and for more demanding conditions in coastal waters.

Among others, the GELEX G5.2 will be available for test drives. The 5-metre-long fishing boat can be equipped with outboards of different power levels, such as the Torqeedo Cruise, Travel XP, or Travel 903 motors, which make it possible to glide over the water in almost silence.

Another highlight is the presentation by Matthias Vogel, Senior Vice President of the Customized Solutions Business Unit at Torqeedo, on Saturday, June 22, at 4.00p.m. on the stage at Audi Sailing Arena. Vogel will be offering insights on the topic of e-mobility on the water and the crucial opportunities this technology presents for the decarbonisation of the marine industry.

Participation in Kiel Week is another important part of the national Torqeedo "Let's Travel" Roadshow, which will take the new Travel Family across Germany.
