With the 55th Sydney International Boat Show kicking off next Thursday, our news emphasises the relevance of the show during this difficult economic environment. Wind-powered boating, draws millions of Australians to the water annually, and as excitement builds for the Australian sailing and paddling athletes, preparing for the upcoming Paris Olympics, it's no surprise that more individuals are exploring ways to join in on the excitement.

Whether it's a day spent on the harbour, an adventure on a river, or simply paddling around a lake, sailing or paddling provides everyone with the chance to immerse themselves in nature, compete, socialise or just take time out to escape the daily grind. For those curious about the world of sailing or paddling, or for those converted enthusiasts eager to explore new techniques and equipment, the Discover Sailing & Paddling Hub at the Sydney International Boat Show is a must-see this August 1-4.

The 55th edition of the Show will present everything from local club sailing to ocean-going yachts coupled with panel discussions, presentations and demonstrations with Australia's foremost sailing personalities. The Boating Industry Association (BIA) initiated the Discover Sailing & Paddling Hub as part of the Show in 2023 and it can again be found on the Marina Foreshore.

BIA Member boat manufacturers, designers and surveyors are invited to attend a workshop discussing the possible extension of scope of national standards for recreational vessels in Australia. As part of BIA's ongoing commitment to improving industry standards for the safety of vessels, BIA will be supporting the Australian Recreational Boating Committee (ARBSC) and Standards Australia in hosting this workshop to explore opportunities for the introduction of new standards, including vessel construction and identification standards, and to gauge industry's support.

The workshop will also consider the standardisation of implementation, management and compliance, including competency and authorisation to use standards.

The alluring 100-foot charter vessel, Shadow, will be among the largest on display at this year's Show and is testament to the talents and resources of full-service yachting agency, Chapman. At Sydney the team from Chapman will exhibit aboard Shadow and host events for clients and industry.

Superyacht Australia has announced that it has successfully secured funding from the Queensland Government. This funding aims to assist Queensland companies, often small family-owned businesses or sole traders, in attending international trade shows and events and winning work that will bring export income to Queensland.

J/Boats and J/Composites are pleased to announce the New J/40, an offshore-capable, high performance cruising yacht capable of double-digit speeds with exceptional comfort, both in port and at sea. From the same team that launched the award-winning J/112E, J/122 and J/45, comes an exciting new 40-footer that boldly pushes the envelope on performance, versatility of use, and cruising comfort.

Power Equipment, a leading distributor of power solutions in the industrial and marine sectors, has announced an exclusive distributor agreement with Australian generator manufacturer Eniquest. The Eniquest generator range, which currently includes the Husky, Ranger and Stockman models, will be available through Power Equipment and its dealer network throughout Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific regions.
