New horizons: Gold Coast Marine Jobs & Careers Expo 2024

by Melinda Frowde 7 Aug 2024 02:28 PDT 7 September 2024

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX), the Boating Industry Association (BIA) and Marine Jobs proudly present the 2024 Gold Coast Marine Jobs & Careers Expo, set to sail on Saturday 7 September 2024, from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the Coomera Marine Precinct.

The Marine Jobs & Careers Expo offers an unparalleled insight into the diverse and dynamic career paths available in the marine industry, aiming to connect with a broad audience, including aspiring apprentices, entry-level workers, university and high school students, tradespeople, and professionals seeking a career transition or new opportunities.

The waterfront location of the Coomera Marine Precinct aims to improve expo accessibility whilst providing a vibrant backdrop for exploring the range of jobs, apprenticeships and career pathways that exist within the local marine sector.

Building on the success of the 2023 Gold Coast Marine Careers Open Day which saw over 1300 participants in attendance and boasted over forty-two employment outcomes, this year's expo will deliver immersive experiences for all attendees. Key highlights of this year's expo include:

  • Presentations covering topics such as superyacht careers, pathways to a marine career, apprenticeships, women in marine, advanced manufacturing (STEM), renewable energy, and defence force recruitment.
  • Interactive tours of the facilities of the world-renowned brands, such as Riviera Australia, Gold Coast City Marina and The Boat Works
  • On water immersive experiences on jetboats, luxury motor yachts and large commercial seafaring vessels
  • A physical jobs and skills board to connect attendees with the apprenticeships, jobs, internships and immediate employment and training opportunities.
  • A range of live demonstrations and information sessions delivered by prominent industry leaders highlighting opportunities for gap year placements on superyachts, careers in defence, local apprenticeships, internships and job opportunities in manufacturing & advanced manufacturing, boat building, marine tourism, shipping and the professional services of marine sales, marketing and project management.
  • Entry prizes for registered attendees

David Good, CEO of AIMEX, Superyacht Australia and ACMG commented: "We are excited to be delivering the expo in its second year and look forward to supporting more businesses to attract talent across the variety of job and apprenticeship opportunities. This event is a testament to our commitment to building a skilled and dynamic workforce for the marine industry. We invite everyone to explore the diverse and unknown careers that are available. With over two billion dollars of projected marine infrastructure development planned for the Gold Coast over the next ten years, it is now more than ever vital to secure our next generation of talent for the sector."

The 2024 Gold Coast Marine Jobs & Careers Expo is made possible by the ongoing support from the Department of State Development & Infrastructure, City of Gold Coast, Regional Development Australia - Gold Coast, Workforce Australia - Local Jobs Program, the Department of Employment, Small Business & Training, TAFE Queensland, Experience Gold Coast, Gold Coast Manufacturing Hub, Riviera Australia, Gold Coast City Marina, The Boat Works, SeaLink Marine and Tourism, The Tour Collective, and Maritimo.

This initiative supports the strategic actions that aim to build a more resilient and capable workforce as outlined within the Queensland Government Superyacht Strategy 2018-2028.
