Royal Corinthian Yacht Club Super Saturday 2024

by Petru Balau 21 Aug 2024 07:27 PDT 17 August 2024

Charlie Matthews, sailing on a Blaze, won the 2024 edition of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club Super Saturday, after coming second on the last race of the series, on 17th of August 2024.

With more than 50 boats participating, the 2024 edition of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club Super Saturday series was a great success for the Corinthian Dinghies fleet.

With 3 wins, 2 seconds and very well placed discards, Charlie Matthews, sailing on a Blaze, won the Fast Handicap Fleet series.

He was followed, in second place, by another Blaze sailor, Malcolm Hutchings and by Keith Gilmore, in third, sailing on a ILCA 6.

The best Corinthian Otter was Nathan Flynn, ILCA 6, in 6th place, with a well deserved win on the second to last weekend of the series.

The Optimist fleet was won by Poppy Clark, followed by Freddie Barnes and Lilia Venkat.

The Slow Handicap Fleet final positions table gave the race committee a bit a headache, due to the frequent changes in crews.

Joseph Bowd, crewed by Gracie Jones and Angus MacNeil, sailing a Cadet, was the eventual winner, followed by two other Cadets, Sammy Buckley and Orla Bowd in second place and George Corrigan, crewed by Archie Hutcheon and Jess Wright, in third.

The next event for the flourishing dinghy fleet is the Burnham Week, with races during the Bank Holiday weekend, the John Torrance Trophy on midweek and the Trophy Day race, on the last Saturday of the regatta, the Dinghy Town Cup, affectionately nicknamed "The Ditch Cup" by the members of the fleet.
