X Shore, the Swedish technology company behind a generation of fully-electric, silent and connected boats, today announces its official entry into the UK market.
To mark their formal UK launch X Shore will be showcasing at Southampton International Boat Show (13-22 September), where an X Shore 1 will be present. Show attendees can register interest in a sea trial while visiting. After the Southampton show, an X Shore 1 boat will be moored in the UK (Norfolk Broads) and is available for sea trials. All X Shore models (the flagship Eelex 8000, sleek and lower price point X Shore 1, workboat X Shore PRO) will be available for purchase. The X Shore 1 starts at £95,000 plus VAT.
The UK government set out last year, via the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO), its 'roadmap for a more sustainable maritime future'. Wide-ranging and all-encompassing, it covers areas such as: decarbonising the shipping industry; protecting oceans and marine resources; reducing, offsetting, and insetting emissions; and sustainable procurement. X Shore can - and will - support these vital workstreams through their UK launch.
Research has shown that emissions from high-performance fossil-fuelled boats are substantial and from just 50 hours on the water, common 6-10 metre boats can produce emissions comparable to more than 7 roundtrips between New York and central Europe by aeroplane. Beyond emissions, noise pollution from traditional boating is having a negative effect on the planet. The International Maritime Organisation has found that noise pollution from boats negatively impacts marine life, both short and long-term.
X Shore CEO René Hansen: "We are thrilled to finally bring X Shore boats to the UK and serve a market that is not only steeped in maritime history but is also at the forefront of sustainable innovation. The UK's commitment to a nature positive future aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver fully-electric, high-performance boats that offer both environmental benefits, functional design, seamless technology and an exceptional boating experience. We're excited to offer British customers the opportunity to experience the future of boating firsthand and grow the market together."
The UK launch follows May's news that X Shore was selected as an 'EU Blue Champion' by the European Commission And European Investment Bank.
The European Commission, in collaboration with the European Investment Bank (EIB), launched the 'EU Blue Champions' scheme to provide financial advisory services to, and support, organisations that are actively: restoring marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, eliminating pollution, and decarbonising the blue economy. The scheme is supported by the BlueInvest platform, part of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund that encourages innovation and investment in sustainable technologies for the blue economy.
