Noble Marine ILCAuk ILCA 4 Inland Championships at Grafham Water Sailing Club

by Chloe Grayton 7 Nov 2024 22:50 PST 2-3 November 2024

The ILCA 4 Inland Championships were tough this year, with loads of competition between the boys and girls in the fleet! Unfortunately, Saturday's races didn't go as planned since the wind was so light and shifty that we couldn't get any racing in, despite the race team's best efforts. But Sunday definitely made up for it with four solid races completed.

The day ended with a prize draw. Several fabulous prizes from Tideway Wealth, Ovington Boats and Rooster were handed out to many happy recipients. Thank you sponsors.

In Race 1, Thomas Semmens took the lead early on, securing first place with Ava Harris-Scott close behind in second and Felix Harle in third. It was a tight race, and everyone was pushing hard to get a strong start to the day.

Things really started heating up in Race 2 when Chloe Grayton took an early lead and kept it all the way to the finish. Merry Lewis wasn't far behind Chloe, closely followed by Noah Mathers who, in the last few boat lengths before the finish line, overtook Merry taking second place with Merry ending third in a pretty intense finish.

By race three, Thomas Knight pulled ahead of the fleet and kept a solid lead, with Chloe and Emily Shearer battling it out for second and third. This race ended with a shortened course, finishing at the top of the inner loop.

The final race of the day had Chloe in the lead, creating a decent gap ahead of Thomas Knight in second, while Ava took third. The competition was tough all day, and even with light, shifty winds, everyone gave it their all.

Coming down to the final race, Chloe Grayton came 1st overall, with Thomas Semmens 2nd and Thomas Knight 3rd.

Overall, the conditions were challenging, with light and shifty winds keeping us all on our toes. The race team did an amazing job making sure we could get four races in, especially after no races on Saturday. Huge thanks to them for their hard work and keeping everything running smoothly. It was definitely a weekend of patience, tactics, and some amazing racing!

Thank you to UKLA and Grafham Water Sailing Club for hosting such a great event. And thank you to our great sponsors for no only sponsoring this event but for supporting ILCAuk this season.
