The Progressive Cleveland Boat Show organized by the Ohio Marine Trades Association and presented by Toyota Tundra, is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural Workforce Days. Aimed at introducing local high school students to the diverse career opportunities available in the marine industry, the two-day event will take place at the IX Center in Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In Ohio, nearly 53% of high school seniors do not pursue a two-year or four-year college degree after graduation, according to the Thomas B. Fordham Institute. With many young adults seeking fulfilling, flexible, and purpose-driven careers outside of traditional academic paths, the marine industry offers an ideal solution, providing opportunities for rewarding jobs, work-life balance, and career advancement without the need for a four-year degree.
"The Workforce Days initiative aims to bridge the gap by exposing students to a wide range of career options in the marine industry, particularly those who may not have had direct exposure to boating or water-related activities," said Michelle Burke, President of the Ohio Marine Trades Association. "Participants will have an opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, work alongside Yamaha technicians on outboard motors, attend a career panel featuring industry professionals and much more."
Currently, several local school districts have committed to participating including Bay Village, Berea, Danbury, Garfield Heights, Medina, North Ridgeville, Oberlin, Shefield-Shefield Lake, South Euclid-Lyndhurst and Vermillion. These districts will be sending students on field trips or offering career shadowing opportunities to encourage students to explore the marine industry as a viable career path.
"The Progressive Cleveland Boat Show's Workforce Days represents a key part of the event's ongoing efforts to support local communities and create pathways to employment for young people. By engaging students early, the show hopes to spark interest in the marine sector and build a strong workforce for the future," Burke said.
