Mark Jardine, Managing Editor of Sail-World.com and YachtsandYachting.com took a tour around the J/40 during boot Düsseldorf 2025 with Frédéric Bouvier from J/Composites.

During the show the J/40 was judged winner of European Yacht of the Year 2025 in the Performance Cruiser category.

With the J/40 it doesn’t feel like you are making the compromise between racing and cruising. You’ve got a spacious saloon and cockpit, clean lines and light down below with well-sized heads, ample storage, and when passage making you have the performance required to go further afield.

The well thought out deck layout speaks of the experience going all the way back to when the J/24 was designed in 1977. Easy sail handling makes for enjoyable racing and comfortable cruising, and everything about the boat shows how ergonomics are at the core of the design.
