Seven-Up: Behind the scenes at new Van der Valk Shipyard construction hall

by Van der Valk Shipyard 6 Mar 08:29 PST

Having built a reputation for creating the finest fully custom superyachts between 25 and 40 metres, it is essential that we provide premium standards and service to match.

From Wim's first humble shed in 1967, Van der Valk has come a long way over the past six decades and our new construction facility takes things to the next level. The opening of Hall 7 brings the total yard premises to over 9000 m2, with direct access to the water via 120 m of dock.

As you can see from the images, Hall 7 offers a state-of-the-art platform for our craftsmen to ply their trades. Its giant 12 x 12 m hangar doors open up to reveal an impressive 2,540 m2 of spaces and the very latest equipment required for bespoke superyachts. What's more, Van der Valk can now work simultaneously on two more projects up to 47 m in length.

Client-driven

"Van der Valk's growth is strongly driven by clients," says technical director Bram Kooltjes. "As well as providing an optimum build experience and outcome for owners, this new facility is helping us attract talented people from across the boatbuilding spectrum. If you have what it takes to make an impact in the superyacht sector, this is the right environment in which to do so. Contact us here"

At the turn of the millennium Van der Valk had three halls building six projects under 20 m. By 2017 a sixth facility was being opened with a 14 m high hall that enabled larger yachts to be built in their entirety rather than having hulls and superstructures constructed in separate halls prior to their marriage.

Future-proofing

"As new orders continued to increase, Hall 7 was designed with the future in mind," adds Bram. "Our 100-strong workforce covers most disciplines and we can build complete aluminium hulls, including all piping, plumbing, mechanical engineering & outfitting. Our system integration, electronics, navigation and A/V specialists are highly respected, as are our interior joiners. In-house painters take care of interiors and exteriors while the teak decking is laid by our experts."

No other boutique yard combines all these skills with the ability to create custom superyachts up to 47 metres. After the recent launch of ONE, exciting projects currently in build include Samba, EVO and Jangada.
