Effective March 13 the Government of Canada has imposed 25 percent tariffs on $29.8 billion in products imported from the U.S. including fishing rods, hooks, nets, lines, and other tackle.

While negotiations between the two countries continue and may lead to an easing of these tariffs, the newly announced retaliatory tariffs are in effect. In the announcement, Canada explained that these new countermeasures would remain in place until the U.S. eliminates its tariffs against Canadian steel and aluminum products.

The Trump administration's reinstated Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum imports take effect this week, imposing a 25% tariff on all imported steel and aluminum. Canada also announced retaliatory measures on $21 billion worth of U.S. goods. Frank Hugelmeyer, President and CEO of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, released a statement in response to the EU's retaliatory tariffs on recreational boats.
