The non-profit association Caribbean Sail Training announced today that the commercial sailing ship STAD AMSTERDAM has agreed to hold an open ship day and will do a half day of sailing with youngsters, CST members and invited guests on April 13, 2025.

The vessel is not a member of CST as their members can only be non-commercial ships, but in an exceptional cooperation with their ship agent Yacht Assistance, and as they will visit Marigot Saint Martin several times in the future, they agreed to cooperate with CST for an educational half day sailing trip and offer an "Open Ship" afternoon to the general public.

CST is regularly organizing a "Maritime Experience Day" and this one is the final one of the Caribbean yachting season.

The vessel will again been hosted by the Port de Marigot / Galisbay on SUNDAY APRIL 13, 2025 for the morning sail trip and the afternoon Open Ship Day. More information and details will be announced shortly in the press and CST websites.

The Clipper STAD AMSTERDAM is 76 metres in length and features 31 sails with a total area of 2200 square meters. The ship has an authentic transverse rig, a sharp clipper bow and sails as a passenger ship under the Dutch flag.

The Clipper Stad Amsterdam is a modern sailing ship built in traditional fashion.

The idea for this updated craft was born during SAIL Amsterdam 1995, spurred on by a desire to put the Netherlands back on the map alongside other seafaring nations.

Global talent company Randstad N.V. and the Municipality of Amsterdam were behind the initiative to construct the ship in a style modelled after the fast ocean clippers of the late nineteenth century.

At the same time, operating the vessel would provide young people with work opportunities, training and unique life experiences.

Each year, Clipper Stad Amsterdam sails the world's oceans as a passenger ship. The captain and crew of 30 take care of every aspect, whether it's for a luxury cruise or an adventurous sailing trip. Their efforts fulfil one of the Stad Amsterdam's objectives to increase equality of opportunity for young people.

The clipper is a place where people of all backgrounds can make new connections. On board, however, the differences fade away. Hundreds of young people have sailed and worked hand in hand with the permanent crew. Through collaboration, discovering new cultures and overcoming fears, participants develop skills that boost their self-confidence. This prepares them for a successful start in the job market.

In August 2023, Clipper Stad Amsterdam set sail for a two-year tour around the world.

During this World Tour, the Clipper has visited many iconic cities including Tokyo, Shanghai, Sydney, Mumbai, Cape Town, and now St.Martin - St.Maarten.

The vessel will continue from Marigot to New York and London. In honour of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary celebrations, Stad Amsterdam will proudly sail back into her home port Amsterdam, as SAIL Amsterdam's flagship, in August 2025.

About Caribbean Sail Training

The Caribbean Sail Training Association (CST) has been established in 2004 as a registered nonprofit / charity association with the aim to provide education and sail training towards young people of all nationalities, cultures, religions and social backgrounds and specially towards people living in the Caribbean.

Over the years, CST has placed many youngsters from Caribbean Islands as trainees on board the sail training vessels / Tall ships.

The association arranges sail training voyages on board Tall ships and yachts that are provided at no cost to the trainees.

Eventual expenses like air line tickets, hotel stays etc. for the youth are also paid for by the association.

CST has arranged (with several ports and on several Islands in the Caribbean) that official CST Member Sail Training Ships do NOT have to pay docking fees when moored or on a pier. This agreement is only valid for the real training ships, so Tall Ships like Star Flyer, SeaCloud and others that are beautiful ships but operate commercially and have no trainees can not benefit from those arrangements.

Tall ships, Sail Training Vessels, Cargo vessels, Sail Yachts and others that have trainees on board need to contact the Caribbean Sail Training in advance of their arrival to the Caribbean in order to become a CST member vessel before they can receive those free docking and other benefits.

Every vessel that is already a member of Caribbean Sail Training should also contact CST with their itinerary in advance of sailing around the Islands.

In addition, Ships agent Yacht Assistance offers FREE agency services for all qualified sail training vessels in St.Maarten and St.Martin and cooperating ship agents at other Islands like Guadeloupe and St.Barth's do the same.

The member vessels don't have to pay clearance and immigration fees and other costs.

Caribbean Sail Training sponsors also harbor, docking and other fees for CST member Sail Training Vessels and Tall Ships where local port authorities have not reached an agreement with CST as yet to provide reduced or free docking and other services when possible.

CST organizes also "Maritime Experience Days" while the sail training vessels are in the Caribbean.

Locals and visitors have been invited to open ship days and hundreds of school kids embarked during day sailing trips on vessels like the Eye of the Wind, the Eendracht, the Tres Hombres, Wylde Swan, Christian Radich, the Danmark, Sorlandet and others.

CST has even organized Maritime Experience Days on race boats and mega yachts like Berzinc and the Superyacht Sherakhan.
