Akula is one of four projects in Baglietto's 52-metre T-line series with a fully digital AV/IT architecture designed by Videoworks.

Featuring a fully digital architecture, seamless streaming, and advanced connectivity, Akula redefines onboard entertainment. This state-of-the-art system ensures a high-quality, immersive experience, combining innovation, efficiency, and ease of use for yacht owners and guests.

MyInfo

"At the heart of the system is our MyInfo platform, designed to handle both audio and video content in a way that reflects the modern streaming era," says Giovanni Varone, Yachting Sales Manager at Videoworks. "As content consumption increasingly shifts to streaming services, MyInfo facilitates this transition with a fully digital, network-based system for distributing and managing AV content onboard."

MyInfo's backbone is a robust, reliable network infrastructure built around Cisco equipment. All content—whether audio or video—is transmitted over an IP network. This means every device on board, from cabin TVs to smartphones, is connected via Ethernet, eliminating the need for traditional HDMI or RF cables. The content is encoded and streamed to televisions via an app developed by Videoworks, which is installed directly on the TV.

This setup not only reduces the need for additional wiring but also simplifies installation. Furthermore, the centralised technical space just aft of the wheelhouse houses two racks that manage all system components, making maintenance both efficient and easily accessible.

The system supports offline content, video-on-demand services like Prime Video, and pay- per-view channels accessible through external boxes. On Akula, this includes three SkyStream boxes that encode and stream content directly to the television.

Audio distribution via Dante Protocol

For audio, Videoworks utilises the Dante protocol, the industry-standard for audio streaming. Dante is known for its reliability and precise synchronisation, allowing music to stream from your phone and ensuring that all speakers throughout the vessel play the same content with minimal delay—less than a millisecond. This level of synchronisation is essential for delivering high-quality audio experiences, particularly in environments like recording studios, where Dante originated.

"Aboard this magnificent vessel, sound flows seamlessly, creating an immersive musical experience in every corner," continues Varone. "Thanks to the Dante-based audio-over-IP distribution system, music resonates in perfect harmony across all common areas, from the elegant salons to the open-air decks.

Connectivity: Starlink and WaveHunter

Akula is equipped with two Starlink satellite antennas and Poynting's WaveHunter system, which provides advanced 5G mobile connectivity. WaveHunter features 24 directional antennas capable of capturing 5G signals from shore stations, ensuring high-speed internet access when the vessel is close to land. As the yacht ventures further offshore, the system maintains a strong connection by focusing on the best available signal, reaching up to several miles from shore. Additionally, the system is designed for future integration with OneWeb, the professional alternative/integration to Starlink.

Ease of use and installation

The MyInfo system is designed not only for cutting-edge performance but also for ease of use and installation. Operating via a simple IP network, the system also allows for remote monitoring and control, enhancing user convenience and operational efficiency.

"The centralised racks, which house all the system's hardware, simplify both installation and ongoing maintenance," adds Liana Cavallini, Systems Engineer at Videoworks. "Centralisation is crucial for maximizing storage space in guest areas, ensuring that guests enjoy their time onboard without disruption during maintenance or technical activities."

But the magic doesn't stop there. Each zone operates independently, allowing guests to adjust the volume to their preference, whether they seek a lively atmosphere or a more intimate setting. This cutting-edge system blends effortlessly with the yacht's design—where expansive outdoor spaces merge with luxurious interiors, crafting a single, spacious environment meant to be enjoyed in absolute freedom.

Conclusion

Akula exemplifies the transition to full digital streaming for both video and audio content aboard luxury yachts. With state-of-the-art technology, streamlined installation, and a user- friendly interface, the system delivers a seamless and high-quality entertainment experience for owners and guests. The combination of cutting-edge video streaming, reliable IP-based audio distribution, and robust internet connectivity ensures that Akula will remain at the forefront of AV/IT technology well into the future.
