According to an April 23 Wall Street Journal report, President Trump is considering reducing the tariff rate on Chinese imports to 50-65%.

While no final decision has been made, the administration is exploring a tiered approach, with lower tariffs on items not deemed a national security threat, and higher tariffs on strategic products crucial to U.S. interests.

The NMMA is pleased to announce that leading economist and futurist Dr Shawn DuBravac will serve as a featured speaker at the 2025 American Boating Congress (ABC), bringing his forward-looking economic expertise to the recreational boating industry's premier advocacy event. Dr DuBravac, president of Avrio Institute and former chief economist of the Consumer Technology Association, is widely recognized for his ability to connect macroeconomic trends with industry-specific implications.

The Association of Marina Industries has certified 18 new marina personnel as Clean & Resilient Marina Professionals. This class came from all corners of the country and from marinas both large and small. The intensive four day virtual course taught federal regulatory requirements, best management practices, and green techniques for operating a marina that places minimal impact on its natural surroundings and sets itself up to be resilient as the environment changes.

The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) has announced the recipients of the Outstanding Technician Awards during International Marine Service Technician Week, held April 21-25. Sponsored by Yamaha, the awards recognize ten technicians who have demonstrated exceptional customer service, technical training, and industry involvement. Now in its fourth year, the judging panel included past award winners.

Marine Products Corporation (NYSE: MPX), a leading manufacturer of fiberglass boats, announced its unaudited results for the first quarter ended March 31. "We started off 2025 with a continuation of challenging marine industry trends while we focused on supporting our dealers, managing inventories and controlling costs," stated Ben M. Palmer, President and CEO.

New product releases: Euro Marine Group Ltd (parent company of Lazzara Yachts) has secured a U.S. patent for a deceptively simple, yet radically game-changing invention: integrated sea chests and a discharge system that may quietly redefine how seawater is managed aboard modern yachts. The patented system consolidates seawater intake and discharge into a single structural unit embedded directly into the vessel's hull, effectively removing the web of traditional through-hull fittings that have riddled yacht hulls for decades.

Datrex, Inc has announced their newest product line: USCG-approved Life Floats, engineered and manufactured in the United States. They are now accepting orders for these premium maritime safety devices designed to keep you and your crews safe and withstand the harshest marine conditions.

FarSounder is excited to announce the release of a new citizen science feature in its latest SonaSoft software update. Building on its existing Data Sharing Program, this release introduces the ability for users to report whale sightings and floating trash/debris — further integrating marine conservation into day-to-day navigation for Argos users.
