Following the conclusion of the main part of the Southeast Asian Yachting Conference, the MIA hosted a breakout session for regional members and others interested in MIA activities. This session provided a valuable opportunity to bring representatives from facilities across Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China to share insights on their successes, challenges, and emerging opportunities.

The session also welcomed MIA members and sponsors John Hogan CMP from Marine Structures, and Alister Copley from Copley Marine Consulting Group.

Several key themes emerged from the discussions, including the ongoing development of marina infrastructure throughout Southeast Asia, the pressing need for additional haul-out and shipyard facilities near major marina precincts, and the importance of collecting industry data to support funding applications and build government engagement.

Sustainability and environmental responsibility were also prominent topics. Participants emphasised how crucial these issues have become to their operations, with many facilities actively working toward sustainability targets through programs and projects. Across the region, marinas are engaging with local communities and environmental groups to maintain clean waterways, restore fish habitats, and support coral reef regeneration—remarkable efforts that reflect the growing global focus on environmental stewardship within the industry.

During the session, Nick McLaughlin, General Manager, and James Roy CMM, Senior Marina Director of ONE degrees15 Marina Sentosa Cove, signed the MIA's Marine Sustainability Pledge, joining a growing list of industry leaders committed to environmental best practices. We were also pleased to welcome Balan Aramagan, Marina Manager and Woranart Wongwanich, Marina Director from Royal Phuket Marina in Thailand—the first marina to sign the pledge earlier in March—as well as Scott Finsten CMM, Certified Members Chairman and Harbour Master of Ocean Marina Jomtien, which has also signed the pledge.
