iQFOiL International Games at 2025 Kieler Woche - Day 3 - Full power foiling shakes up leaderboard

by Rachele Vitello 23 Jun 12:47 PDT 21-25 June 2025

The third day of racing at the iQFOiL International Games in Kiel delivered exactly what the fleet had been waiting for: wind, power, and pure adrenaline.

With foils fully flying, athletes across all age groups rose to the challenge in what proved to be a defining day of the 2025 Kieler Woche regatta.

The day began with the Youth and Junior fleets, who tackled the morning's heavy conditions with determination and skill. Despite the breeze building quickly, the young riders showed confidence and control on the water.

In the U19 Men, Henrik Løset Eriksen (NOR 47) continues to hold the top spot with a steady grip on the leaderboard. Likewise, David Bleistein (SWE 201) remains unbeaten in the U17 Boys, extending his winning streak with another solid performance.

The shake-up came in the U17 Girls, where Anna Korevaar (NED 157) once again impressed the fleet. Her third-place finish in a mixed race pushes her into the overall lead of the division, confirming her rising-star status in the class.

As the breeze settled into full strength, it was time for the Senior fleets to take over, and the racing ramped up with four intense course races completed by both Men and Women.

In the Men's fleet, Tomasz Romanowski (POL 125) maintained his overall lead, but the day's spotlight was shared with two major movers: Skip Brull (NED 173) and Jeronimo Abogado (MEX 246), each claiming two bullets to catapult themselves into contention for the Medal Series. With the points tightening, every race is now critical.

"I had a super good day today, I have never had a bullet in the Senior fleet before, so for me to get not only one but two was amazing, especially with the close finish on the last one! So I am super happy with my day today, I managed to climb into sixth position and I'm going to try to keep this tomorrow and get into the finals on Wednesday", commented Jeronimo Abogado.

The Women's fleet saw the French team continue to dominate, with Ambar Papazian (FRA 19), Justine Lemeteyer (FRA 171), and Marion Couturier (FRA 11) all picking up race wins. Thanks to her consistency and a string of strong results, Marion Couturier now tops the leaderboard. Just behind her is Germany's Sophia Meyer (GER 3), who closed the day with a commanding victory in the final race.

"It was a pretty good day for me, my first bullet on an international iQFOiL fleet, so that's pretty good, also considering it was hardcore conditions.. a lot of rain, a lot of really strong winds! It was good fun out there and I am looking forward to tomorrow!", said Justine Lemeteyer.

With more strong breeze forecast for tomorrow, the stage is set for the final push into the Medal Series. Expect fast-paced, strategic racing as athletes from around the world chase podium positions.
