Charity circumnavigation progress report - Project FEAR is in the final few days

Jazz Turner is expected to reach home (Brighton Marina) on Monday 30th June or Tuesday 1st July. She has sailed round the British Isles - all round Ireland and the Shetland Islands - without any assistance, in 27 days so far. Her original estimate was anything between 4 and 8 weeks, because of the unknown nature of how her body would cope with non-stop solo sailing, so she has done incredibly!

As of our last check, her fundraising total was £41,103 which is stunning, and on a whole new level compared with similar voyages by others. But then, Jazz is not like anyone else. For starters, she can't walk on her own ankles or digest a meal like most of us can.... but what I was really referring to is her drive and inner strength in seeing through a mission that doesn't benefit her personally. I may like to think of myself as being that sort of person, but I've never achieved something so amazing, or sailed such a distance.

Some big names have been following this journey, not to mention huge brands like North Sails who went the extra mile to help: Magnus Wheatley recently wrote, "She's more a 'proper sailor' than the vast majority of us." Earlier in the voyage Sir Ben Ainslie and Dame Ellen MacArthur stood up and backed Jazz too. ITV News Meridian have interviewed her. World Sonar champion and Paralympian Hannah Stodel says, "It aligns with everything I've been working toward: making our sport more inclusive, more representative, and more open to those who've historically been left out."

It would be beautiful if the (extended) target of £50,000 is hit before Jazz docks and takes a huge sleep! Please share her story on social media, or send this link to family and friends - gofundme.com/f/project-fear - so the sailing community can come together for the purpose of sharing that freedom which we all know and love, with those who need it even more.

The money raised will go to Newhaven and Seaford Sailability, to buy new boats and equipment in order to get more newcomers with disabilities to enjoy the freedom of sailing. With such a brilliant total raised, I'm sure they can purchase more than the two new boats they were originally hoping for! What a gift to give the community - and so many of you have been a part of it. On behalf of Jazz, thank you.
