2025 Windsurfing Formula Foil World Championships at Circolo Surf Torbole - Overall

by Elena Giolai 13 Sep 11:36 PDT 10-13 September 2025

The Formula Windsurfing Foil World Championships, organized by Circolo Surf Torbole under the authority of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), came to a close today on Lake Garda. After a week that began with unstable wind and weather, from Thursday onwards the Garda Trentino delivered perfect conditions with the Ora blowing steadily between 12 and 16 knots, allowing a total of 18 races to be completed.

It was an intense and hard-fought championship, except for the top spot, which was never in doubt. Germany's Fabian Wolf proved unstoppable: with 12 victories out of 18 races and a margin of nearly 30 points over the rest of the fleet, he claimed the world title with impressive authority and consistency. On the final day, raced under cloudy skies but with steady southerly winds, Wolf added two more wins and a second place to seal his supremacy.

Behind him, Austria's Theo Peter and Denmark's Frederic Ramsgaard finished tied on 41 points. Peter, involved in a collision on the first downwind of today's opening race and struck in the face by a boom, was forced to sit out the following two heats. He was granted average points by the jury through redress, which still secured him the silver medal. Ramsgaard, on the other hand, enjoyed an excellent final day with one win and two second places, but it was not enough to overtake the Austrian on countback.

Spain's Fernando Martinez del Cerro finished fourth overall and first among the Masters, taking the world title in his category ahead of Poland's Pawel Dittrich and Bartolomiej Kwiek, confirming himself as one of the most consistent competitors of the week.

The championship attracted sailors from 13 nations. Protests and collisions kept the jury busy, with several cases of board damage, though fortunately without serious physical consequences for the athletes.

Once again, Circolo Surf Torbole demonstrated outstanding organizational skills and warm hospitality, welcoming athletes and supporters alike. Together with the FIV race committee, they managed to make the most of the available wind windows - opportunities that, in this season, must be seized.

Overall Results:

1. Fabian Wolf (GER)
2. Theo Peter (AUT)
3. Frederic Ramsgaard (DEN)

Masters Results:

1. Fernando Martinez del Cerro (ESP)
2. Pawel Dittrich (POL)
