Allegra achieved her ambition at the Multihull Cup 2025 today, taking the title by a clear margin after consistent sailing and a trio of race wins earlier in the event.
However, change had been the order of the day in the final and deciding 10-nm BM Composites coastal race with the flying yellow 46-foot DNA F4 Falcon hitting her stride to take a well-earned race victory, for once pushing the 84-foot Allegra off the race top spot.
With discards kicking in, the Multihull Cup regular was clear at the top of the table with 3 points, with Gaea, Falcon and Layla tightly bunched on 7, 8 and 9 points respectively.
"We were very happy we could hold it," said Allegra's owner Adrian Keller, who was runner-up last year. "With three new parties showing up we all had a great time.
"It's a bit funny when you co-host and win, but I should point out that more people have won here than we have. Every year we aim to have fair handicapping and we are very close."
And he added: "I think this is a pretty unique event and occasion because it celebrates multihulls, and here we are among friends. We can compete on the water and after we can celebrate together and that is what sailing is all about, being comrades and with people who enjoy the beauty of sailing."
Falcon's owner Matteo Uliassi was delighted with their final day performance: "It was quite unexpected honestly, but it was good as we had a very good race for manoeuvres and tactics so we are really happy about the result."
And crew member Alistair Richardson added: "This weekend we have been improving with the conditions we have had, so it was nice to come away with a win with all the things we had learnt."
Meanwhile Multihull Cup runner-up Gaea benefitted from a star-studded crew which included multiple 49er World Championship and 2016 Olympic Gold Medal winners Blair Tuke and Peter Burling, who also happen to be triple America's Cup victors among their many achievements.
That said, both had a memorable time at Multihull Cup aboard the MM65. Tuke commented: "I've been on the good ship Gaea with great group of friends, it's just a fun thing for us to do. A good mate of ours Zach has had the boat a few years now and always wanted to do some racing, so this was a great opportunity to get a few of us together, friends and family, and to do some sailing. We really enjoyed it.
"Zach had sold it to us as beer in hand sailing, but we knew it would be a bit more serious than that. So the aim was to have some fun and see what Gaea could do. A great weekend all round."
Also racing aboard Gaea was Quinny Houry, Director at North Sails Palma. Reflecting on the company's role he said: "North Sails has been a long-term partner with Multihull Cup, we've been involved since its inception and our idea is to grow competitive multihull sailing, especially in the Mediterranean.
"The multihull community is smaller than the grand prix or superyacht circuit, but it is just as competitive. And the social side of Multihull Cup is very tight and community based, everybody knows everybody and it's about sharing ideas."
Speaking at the celebratory prize-giving, MHC Event Director Andrea Grimm announced she would be stepping down from the role to focus on other areas of her professional life, though remaining as a roving Ambassador to promote the regatta.
"It has been one of the greatest pleasures and privileges of my life to have been so closely involved with The Multihull Cup and to have played a part in its ongoing success in celebrating the many unique elements of performance multihull sailing.
"We are of course indebted to the enduring and continuing support of Port Adriano in providing such a magnificent venue, and to the many supporters and sponsors who have contributed to Multihull Cup.
"I would also like to offer special thanks to Adrian Keller who has been a constant presence as both an inspiring competitor, co-host and valued advocate of competitive multihull racing in general and the Multihull Cup in particular."
And adding his thanks, Keller said: "The Multihull Cup is a unique event in the yacht racing calendar and Andrea has played a vital role in securing its place in the present and will continue to do so into the future as our Ambassador.
"Those of us who have taken part in any or all of its seven editions will be looking to build on its success going forward."
The dates for the eighth edition of the Multihull Cup next year will be confirmed by 31st October.
