A journey characterised by innovation and sustainable vision, in which the Italian company continues to write the history of stabilization: from electric fins - better performing, easier to install and less polluting than hydraulic systems - to the new Energy Recovery System.
Twenty years ago, in 2005, CMC Marine was born from the vision of Alessandro Cappiello, with an idea as ambitious as it was revolutionary: to bring electric power to the world of yacht stabilization. It's an intuition that went on to change the yachting experience forever, transforming comfort, efficiency and sustainability on board.
From prototype to crowning achievement with Stabilis Electra
Today, CMC Marine celebrates the steady growth that has resulted in the brand's success as a world leader in electric stabilization systems for yachts and superyachts, with over 3,000 systems installed and a global market share of more than 50% in the superyacht segment over 20 metres.
Back in 2008, the company presented Stabilis Electra, the first fully electric fin stabilizer system ever installed on a yacht. It's a product that marked an epochal change: more efficiency, silent operation, no hydraulic oil, reduced maintenance and precise control even on stationary boats. And it's a choice that makes installation easier and faster and is environmentally friendly, as well as eliminating the risk of oil leaking into the water.
Since then, the Stabilis Electra range has evolved into various configurations - High Speed (HS), Long Range (LR) - designed for all types of navigation, from sports superyachts to explorer vessels. In the meantime, the company has also developed Waveless STAB, a line of ultra-compact stabilizers designed for yachts from 12 metres upwards, able to ensure comfort on smaller boats with minimal consumption.
"Electric operation wasn't just a technological choice but a design philosophy," explains Alessandro Cappiello. "We wanted to combine performance and sustainability, anticipating a transition that is now the natural direction for yachting."
Technology and global presence
While fin stabilizers are CMC Marine's flagship product, the company also produces Directa - the first fully electric steering systems for superyachts on the market - Dualis thrusters, and DIA-LOG, the propriety management and diagnostic software that provides smart system control and automatic performance optimisation.
One of the company's strengths is its global service network: engineers trained directly by CMC Marine ensure rapid response times, original spare parts and support available seven days a week to shipyards and owners worldwide.
A new production hub in Southern Italy
In December 2023, the new Salerno factory opened in Southern Italy. Dedicated to mechanical production processes and composite materials, it represents an investment that consolidates the brand's presence in Italy and promotes its growth in this region.
Energy Recovery System: the future powers itself
Marking its 20th anniversary in business, CMC Marine presents a novelty that confirms the brand's vocation for innovation: the Energy Recovery System, inspired by the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) originally developed for Formula 1. The principle is both simple and revolutionary: the energy generated when the fin stabilizers are acting as brakes is recovered and reused by the on-board energy system, reducing overall consumption and improving the energy efficiency of the boat, with a reduction in consumption of up to 30%.
