Tide Insurance appoints Paul Miller as its new non-executive director

by Tide Insurance 23 Oct 04:23 PDT

Tide Insurance (Tide), the digital MGA (Managing General Agent) for superyacht insurance, has announced the appointment of experienced marine leisure underwriter, Paul Miller as its new non-executive director.

Miller has been a leading underwriter in the yacht and marine leisure sector for over forty years. He started in 1977 and ultimately joined the Talbot Syndicate before successfully launching his own MGA, R&Q Marines Services (incorporating the Yachtsure24, Marinasure & Racecover products) which was then subsequently sold to Hiscox, before being transferred to Millstream Underwriting in 2020. He remained the Director of Underwriting for the business for 5 years before retiring earlier this year. His expertise in the marine market also saw him serve on the LMA Joint Hull Committee as well as the IUMI Inland Hull, Fishing Vessels & Yachts Committee, which he chaired for five years.

Specialist superyacht MGA Tide launched in late 2024 offering hull & machinery, third-party cover as well as the option to include P&I and crew cover, via unique digital portal, the 'Vesselverse™.' In a first for the yacht insurance market, the Vesselverse™ provides brokers with instant access to policy details, premium information and a whole range of additional risk management guidance to help better protect vessels.

The MGA has grown rapidly since launch, and currently has over £1.3 billion sums insured on cover.

Founder and Managing Director, Ian Hoy, commented:

"I'm pleased to welcome someone of Paul's calibre to Tide. He has an exceptional reputation in our market, and a network of contacts that will prove invaluable as we look to expand our range of products across an increasing number of territories. Our mission is to bring luxury yacht insurance online and offer a completely new and intuitive digital journey to our broker partners, I'm looking forward to seeing what we can achieve with Paul's expert guidance and support."

Paul Miller added:

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to use my years of experience to help support and guide an exciting new MGA in the market I love. Underwriting in the superyacht space has been historically difficult to digitise due to its complexity, but Ian and his team have created something totally unique. I'm looking forward to supporting Tide as they continue to grow and cement their position in the market."
