TEMO is taking a new step in its CSR approach. Its flagship product, the TEMO 450, achieves a score of 91.9/100 on the Voluntary Repairability Index (IRV), classifying it as "highly repairable". A major recognition for this iconic product launched in 2020.
While the repairability index has been mandatory in France since 2021 for certain product categories, electric boat motors are not yet subject to this requirement. Nevertheless, TEMO has chosen to adopt a demanding voluntary approach, becoming the first manufacturer in the sector to apply and communicate on the VRI.
A rigorous methodology serving transparency
Developed within the framework of the work related to the AGEC law, the Voluntary Repairability Index makes it possible to assess the repairability of products not covered by current regulations. It promotes eco-design, manufacturer transparency, and the fight against planned obsolescence.
"Applied to the TEMO 450, the IRV method results in a score of 91.9 out of 100, classifying it as 'highly repairable' ", explains Jean-Paul Ventère, who developed the method (March 2026).

A motor designed to last
From its very design stage, the TEMO 450 was conceived to facilitate repair and extend its lifespan. This positioning is based on concrete industrial choices:
- Spare parts available for up to 12 years
- Spare parts pricing aligned with the cost of a new product
- Quick disassembly, using standard tools
- Reuse of fastening components
TEMO also supports its users with:
- Self-repair guides and FAQs
- Educational videos (maintenance, winter storage, etc.)
- A hotline and free remote after-sales assistance
A reference for small boats
Ultra-portable (4.9 kg including the battery), compact and easy to use, the TEMO 450 has established itself as a benchmark solution for dinghies and small boats up to 2.5 meters. It perfectly meets the evolving needs of recreational boating, particularly for harbor maneuvers and short trips.
A concrete approach to the circular economy
TEMO goes further by offering reconditioned motors refurbished in its workshop in Vannes. This initiative aims to:
- Extend product lifespan
- Reduce waste and carbon footprint
- Make electric propulsion more accessible
A forward-looking approach
The assessment of the TEMO 450 marks an initial step. TEMO plans to apply this methodology across its entire product range, including the TEMO 1000, designed according to the same requirements.
"As integrating repairability from the design stage is at the heart of our approach," says Stéphane L'Appartien, Industrial Director at TEMO.
With this initiative, TEMO confirms its role as a pioneer in sustainable boating, combining performance, repairability, and environmental commitment to support the sector's ecological transition.
