The specialist map and chart retailer returns this July, with its trademark service intact and a rebuilt online operation.

One of Fremantle's best-loved specialty stores is coming back. The Chart & Map Shop, a fixture for travellers, sailors and map lovers for more than two decades, has reopened under new ownership.

David Metcalf has acquired the business following its liquidation in March 2026 and is relaunching it from a new store in Jolimont, alongside a completely rebuilt website.

The shop earned its reputation on range and expertise: topographic and road maps, globes, travel guides, vintage posters and titles you simply could not find elsewhere, served by staff happy to print and laminate on the spot or track down an obscure request. All of that is being kept.

What has been rebuilt is the machinery behind it. A new real-time inventory system keeps online stock accurate, and a redesigned fulfilment and delivery process gives every order reliable tracking and prompt dispatch, directly addressing the delays and communication gaps that troubled the business before it closed.

"The Chart & Map Shop has always been about great products and great people, and that is not changing. We have simply given it the reliable systems to match, so customers get what they order, when they expect it." - Aidan Sorci

Customers affected by the previous company's collapse are also being offered a goodwill store credit to use across the new range once the doors reopen.

The Chart & Map Shop is now trading again with orders flying out the door.
