The success of the Coomera Schools Marine Hub highlights the importance of exposing students to real-world career opportunities at a time when workforce attraction and development remain key priorities for the marine industry.

The recent BIA National Jobs & Skills Survey identified ongoing challenges in recruiting apprentices, tradespeople and skilled workers, reinforcing the need for stronger connections between schools, training providers and industry. This program provides a practical example of how those connections can help build awareness of marine careers and create a future talent pipeline.

Fifteen Year 10 students from Foxwell State High School recently took part in the first industry tour delivered through the Coomera Schools Marine Hub, gaining firsthand insight into the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available within Australia's marine industry.

Hosted at The Boat Works on the Gold Coast, the tour provided students with a unique opportunity to explore marine businesses, meet industry professionals and learn about the wide range of trades, technical roles and career pathways that support Queensland's thriving marine sector.
