BIA fights for apprentice incentives

by Boating Industry Association 5 Nov 14:38 PST

The Boating Industry Association is ramping up national advocacy to combat a shortage of skilled labour, compounded by recent Federal apprenticeship funding cuts.

Survey data shows 88 per cent of members are anxious about the apprentice pipeline, while 52 per cent report direct revenue losses.

BIA is working with industry partners to press for urgent Federal Government action. Key recommendations include reclassifying core qualifications like boatbuilding and marine mechanics under high priority streams, streamlining visa sponsorship, and introducing Skilling Australians Fund levy exemptions for small to medium family businesses, especially in regional areas.

With small family businesses making up 75 per cent of membership, BIA is working to restoring vital financial support to protect the industry workforce.
