Actisense, the global marine electronics specialists, have been named as Manufacturer of the Year at the 2023 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Conference and Expo.

The annual week-long event was held at the DoubleTree Universal Hotel in Orlando, Florida, and culminated in the NMEA Product of Excellence Awards on 21st September. This is the second year running that Actisense have taken home this accolade, having been presented it in Anaheim, California, in October 2022. Previous recipients of the Product of Excellence Award at the NMEA Awards, Actisense have over 25 years' experience in engineering and manufacturing specialist NMEA connectivity and data management solutions. The company's most recent innovations include a new range of Type Approved buffers and multiplexers, especially designed for the commercial marine market.

GOST® (Global Ocean Security Technologies), a world leader in marine security, tracking, monitoring and video surveillance systems, announced today the GOST GNT-Evolution-IDP-Hardware/Wireless Security, Monitoring and Global Tracking System has been awarded the Product of Excellence Award by the NMEA in the category of Remote Vessel Monitoring Systems.

This is the sixth time that GOST has won in this category since it was created six years ago. The Product of Excellence Awards are voted on by professional marine electronics installing NMEA dealers, qualified NMEA technicians and fellow marine electronics manufacturers.

At the first appearance at the Newport International Boat Show, YYachts was promptly awarded: The Y7 "Miss Shell" received the award for Best New Sailboat. YYachts, the renowned German yacht manufacturer, marked its inaugural presence at the Newport International Boat Show with resounding success. The star of the show, the Y7 named "Miss Shell," not only captivated numerous visitors but also secured a prestigious accolade as part of the Newport for New Products program.

Technology updates this week include news from Europe. Imagine traveling by electric boat from London to Amsterdam and back within 24 hours? During a recent endurance challenge, the electric hydrofoiling Candela C-8 covered a distance equivalent to that journey, setting a new world record for the longest distance driven by an electric boat in a day.

Swedish electric boat manufacturer Candela's latest version of its C-8 foiling craft covered a remarkable 420 nautical miles - equivalent to 777 kilometers or 483 miles - within 24 hours in the Stockholm archipelago. The prior claimed record was 79 nautical miles achieved in 20 hours.

Industry sailors will welcome the announcement from Sail America, the trade association for the sailing industry, who announced that registration is open for the 10th edition of the Sail America Industry Conference (SAIC) taking place in Florida for the first time. The three-day event, specifically geared toward sailing industry professionals, will take place at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club on April 23-25, 2024. Held annually, SAIC will host speakers in addition to offering interactive roundtables and more.

Attendees will learn about new topics and trends and receive industry updates. The three-day conference features a regatta, field trip, a day and a half of educational sessions, and industry networking events including a reception and raffle. There will be opportunities for members to host "wrap-around" events which could include staff retreats, leadership meetings, strategic planning meetings and sales team meetings.

And a gesture from the International Game Fish Association deserves recognition. They announced an initial distribution of $30,000 from the Worldwide Anglers Relief Fund to the recreational fishing communities in Hawaii in the wake of the recent firestorm. On August 8th, devastating wildfires broke out in Lahaina, on the island of Maui, causing severe damage and being hailed as the most devastating natural disaster in the island's history.
