Recognising the ingenuity and technical prowess of the team at Aus Ships Group and Rivergate Marina and Shipyard, the 2018 Business of the Year (Manufacturer) was presented to Rivergate Director of International Business, Steven Fisher, Rivergate General Manager Andrew Cannon and Aus Ships Group Director, Tommy Ericson at the 2018 Australian Marine Industry Awards, held last night at the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove.
"It's an honour to receive this Award," said Steven Fisher. "It's an Award that recognises team work and the sheer dedication and hard work of a multitude of talented people.
"Rivergate and Aus Ships join forces to give our customers more and, if I can encourage everyone, I believe as an industry collectively, we can do far more together than we can do on our own."
Aus Ships Group Director, Tommy Ericson said underlying every successful project is the people involved.
"We are a dynamic, hard working group of Australian men and women who work hard, take pride in our workmanship and have a bloody good time while we do it!
"In addition, thank you to the entire Rivergate family for supporting the Aus Ships Group from the beginning. Our growth is a testament to our collaboration and we want to keep achieving greater results together."
The Award recognised Rivergate and Aus Ships collaboration on the installation of new Triton submersibles on board a superyacht support vessel, ahead of its global itinerary with owners who are keen divers.
Rivergate was chosen for its technical capability, facilities and expertise. Rivergate's onsite marine architect, Tommy Ericson, director of the Aus Ships Group, oversaw and directed the design, naval architecture, Class and Flag liaison, fabrication, welding and installation to create a totally unique solution for the 53m Damen Sea Axe.
The project, which was completed in just 6 months, involved refitting this high-tech vessel with hangar and garage facilities to handle two new Triton submarines, customised davits, docking, stowage and refuelling.
Six months was deemed a very quick turnaround for such a complex and pioneering project, and a team comprising 65 trades and an additional 65 contractors worked relentless hours, sometimes around the clock to get each facet of the works completed to Class standard.
From the feedback of the vessels' management, they were exceptionally impressed with the hangar, its aesthetics and functionality. They commented that the vessel is now "the best equipped shadow vessel on the planet, ready for any adventure and with looks to match".
Triton Submersibles have already returned to Rivergate to request customised solutions for several of their other international clients.
Operating in the superyacht sector for 12 years, Rivergate is adept at bringing the skills of all its tenants and contractors to bear to develop unique solutions for its superyacht clientele.
"At this level, no two jobs are ever the same," said Tommy Ericson, Director at Aus Ships. "There is no 'one-size fits all' approach – every client, like their yachts, is unique. Rivergate is the one-stop-shop for customization at this ultra-high-end of the market, and takes the same approach to projects for production boats and commercial vessels of all sizes.
"We are not content with the norm and we love a challenge. That is why owners choose Rivergate."
At this year's Awards, Rivergate Marina and Shipyard sponsored and presented the Award in the category of Most Innovative Marine Industry Commercial Marine Product or Service of the Year, which was won by JEC Marine. Congratulations to JEC Marine for its win in a highly contested section.
"Our warmest congratulations too to Captain Michael Gooding of MY Silent World, winner of the Australian Voyage Award 2018," said Steve Fisher. "Silent World is a loyal customer at Rivergate and we celebrate this recognition of their exceptional service and dedication, as well as Captain Michael's personal commitment and love for the industry."
Master of Ceremonies, Alistair Murray AM commented on the exceptionally high calibre of applications in this year's Awards, with just points separating entries in some categories.
Rivergate and the Aus Ships Group thank AIMEX-Superyacht Australia for organising and holding the Awards, the Judges and Award Sponsors and acknowledge the hard work of all the people involved in projects such as the Triton Submarine work.
