The Moorings launches new RYA Motor Cruising Course in Palma, Spain

Due to the success of its Corfu power school, The Moorings is expanding its offering to include the beautiful island of Palma, Spain with courses available from October 2019.

Many of the world's most stunning charter destinations now require cruising certifications, so what better way to learn than with hands-on instruction aboard a comfortable power catamaran in the Mediterranean?

"If you've dreamed of taking the helm for a power yachting vacation, and earning RYA Helmsman or RYA Day Skipper cruising certifications, The Moorings' new RYA Motor Cruising Course in Palma could be just the answer. Designed in collaboration with collaboration with renowned builders Robertson & Caine, The Moorings 434PC is the perfect yacht to learn or hone your skills," says Josie Tucci, VP of Sales and Marketing.

The seven-day experience starts at The Moorings base in the charming city of Palma, De Mallorca. Run in association with Royal Yachting Association recognised training partners, Aigua Sea School, with a limit of five guests on board, there will be five full days of quality, hands-on, and personalised instruction in stunning cruising grounds. There are no tests or exams required as certification is awarded based on instructor assessment. The Moorings team has designed the course to also give you another full day to relax, practice your skills and take in the beautiful scenery that Palma has to offer.

The Moorings 434PC is the perfect yacht for learning or refreshing skills. Created in collaboration with renowned builders Robertson & Caine, this mid-size catamaran features a generous indoor living space complete with air conditioning and a fresh, modern look throughout.

A well-appointed galley sits forward in the saloon while a forward-facing settee and table are now located aft. Behind the settee, large sliding glass doors open to the aft cockpit, providing panoramic views and an open layout. Below deck, four double cabins and two en-suite bathrooms fill the hulls, providing spacious accommodation. The spacious flybridge, offers 360-degree visibility, ample seating, and direct access to a sunbathing platform located forward.

Also, on the flybridge, the fully equipped helm station controls the yacht's twin 260hp diesel engines, providing comfortable cruising speeds and low fuel consumption consistent with all Moorings Power yachts.

Course Options

Beginner: Theory RYA Essential Navigation & Safety, plus RYA Helmsman certification

Covering basic boat handling, engine checks, rope work and safety. The course is ideal for new owners conscious of the difficulty and hazards of boat handling in the marina. It is also valuable for anyone wishing to take on the role of crew member on a motor cruiser. The course includes safety and seamanship, engine operations and maintenance, boat preparation, boat handling, rope work, man overboard recovery and anchoring.

Intermediate: RYA Day Skipper certification

The most important of the RYA Practical Motor Cruising courses, as it provides all the foundations of safe boating. You will take charge on short passages, under instruction, and practice boat handling and navigation. This course can also help you get the most from your modern electronic aids such as GPS and radar.

The course includes preparation for sea, boat handling, navigation, tide, pilotage, passage making, meteorology, rules of the road, engines, emergency situations, introduction to night cruising.
