The Island state of Australia is currently home to some of the wildest fish you will ever see. School Bluefin located within an hour's drive of the capital city Hobart is not often something others can boast about.

School Bluefin averaging 15 to 20 kilos have been seen right in the Derwent River just this week. Other locations are St Helens on our East Coast and Bicheno where you never know, you might crack a mighty swordfish as well.

Bread and butter fishing such as Morwong, Ling, Alphonsino, Trevalla and Stripey Trumpeter are all on offer for those who like to fish deep inshore reefs.Mako shark are regular visitors, even at this time of the year. With Covid 19 restriction's currently in place, it will be some weeks before everything piscatorial kicks off again, but when it does, we should see some cracker fish caught. For those contemplating a trip down with their trailer boats, it's a quick hop on to the ferries and an overnight sail and you're here. A quick trip to either the East Coast or drive through to the South and you can be fishing the following day after travelling.

If that's not your cup of tea, try one of our experienced charter operators who can put you spot on to the fish and will even clean and package your catch for you. Have look at scboot.org.au to book your upcoming charter, but I'd be quick as bookings are already limited.Tassies trout season has just ended with spawning runs taking place, but the rainbow season runs until the end of the month.

Some trout waters remain open all year round and you can check out what's available by visiting www.ifs.tas.gov.au.
