The Nautilus Marine Emergency Preparedness Course is available online. With enhanced downloadable reference documents, this course will include a combination of self-paced learning and online live session with an industry veteran.
Emergencies occur when you least expect and can catch people off-guard. Are you and your marina staff prepared? What are the legal requirements marinas must abide by in an emergency? Is your emergency management plan complete, up-to-date and tested? Is the necessary emergency equipment on hand and are all staff regularly trained in its use? Do you have all the appropriate documentation and processes in place? Participation in this online course should be part of any marina's risk mitigation strategy.
The next Part B Live Zoom session of the Nautilus Marine Emergency Preparedness Online Course will be on 5th October from 2pm to 4pm ADST.

What to expect from the course
This course is relevant to marinas of all sizes. It will help you develop an emergency management plan for your facility or refresh ideas for facilities with an existing emergency management plan. You cannot afford to miss this training.
There are two parts to this online course. (Part A and B)
Part A - (1 hour) Self-paced online learning
Once you register for the course, you will have access to the course materials online. Part A content will consist of two marina case studies, Compliance with legal requirements, Understanding the emergency planning process, development of emergency management plan, what goes into a setup of an emergency planning committee. considerations when conducting a risk assessment for emergencies at your facility. Develop emergency control organisations and Implement a suitable training program. You must complete part A to continue onto Part B.
Part B - (2 hours) Live online session with the presenter
Discussion of case study, response to incidents, installed equipment, contractor requirements, and communication.
This course will have:
- Explanations of various emergency protocols. Case studies, and live discussion with other participants and the presenter
- Tips on effective communication pre, during, and after an emergency and managing different types of engagements including media.
- Steps to utilise Emergency Committee Organisations, (ECO, ECC) and their tasking and workflow
- Downloadable Resources: Audit tools, Emergency Plans, Australian Standard - emergency plans section, Participant workbook
- Info on useful procedures your facility requires to be prepared for an emergency.
Part B Live Online Presenter - Phil McGowen CMM
Philip McGowen CMM has been the Marina Manger of Birkenhead Point Marina for over 18 years. Birkenhead Marina is the largest private marina on Sydney Harbour with 201 berths and an extensive fuel wharf. The Marina was awarded Platinum Gold Anchor rating in 2018. Philip also serves on the Education committee at the Marina Industries Association. Prior to his position at the marina he was a member of the NSW Police Force specialising in Diving and Water Police Duties on Sydney Harbour.
