As the country recovers from two years of a variety of restrictions the boating industry has enjoyed record sales. Globally, demand for boats has never been higher and brokers have rued the shortage of stock and long delays in receiving new builds. Clearly the future looks bright for the whole leisure marine spectrum.

As we get back to normal working conditions, job numbers increase and a welcome job website marinejobs.org.au has been created by the Marina Industry Association. Industry members can sign up to their twice monthly job vacancy newsletter outlining existing and new job vacancies. For job seekers staying on top of new opportunities, or finding a job on the water or around boats is easy with the Job Flash email. A special promotion on behalf of the industry is about to commence. The Boating Industry Association Ltd yesterday launched its "Discover Boating" campaign ahead of the expected busy summer season. BIA President Darren Vaux said interest in boating and the boating lifestyle remains strong and now was the time to build on this interest and keep the momentum going. "BIA is spearheading a collaborative advertising campaign by industry, aimed at promoting participation in boating across Australia. Boating has proven a standout choice in leisure activity nationwide and we aim to keep it that way," Vaux added. "The BIA Discover Boating campaign is a three-month, multi-channel advertising campaign to promote participation in boating and the boating lifestyle to millions of people across Australia.

Further evidence of the surging demand for boats is illustrated by this announcement from Queensland. The eyes of the global marine industry are set on Sanctuary Cove Marina as they unveil 48 covered marina berths in a first for the industry in the southern hemisphere, cementing the Gold Coast-based marina's position as a world leader in the industry. The final stage of Sanctuary Cove Marina's multi-million-dollar marina upgrades, the 14.5 metre covered berths provide an unparalleled service offering for luxury boat owners as boats internationally look to dock on Australian shores.

Excitement for the development has been demonstrated in the overwhelming demand for the covered berths, with the majority of the spaces being committed to during the construction period. The protective sails have been designed to integrate with Sanctuary Cove's distinct aesthetic, with the shade structures resemblant of ribbons in the breeze, they act as both an impactful design enhancement and a valuable feature for berth holders.

Just up the road from Sanctuary Cove at Coomera, The Boat Works has increased capacity, investing again in additional marine infrastructure that has created the largest superyacht refit sheds for the Gold Coast. The new development offers boat owners and Captains even bigger sheds with a staggering 20-metre clearance. Construction has not slowed down since the February 2020's opening of the 25-acre Superyacht facility adjacent to the south boatyard.

Stage 4, spurred on by the continued demand, is now well under construction in preparation to cater to superyachts, charter vessels, expedition and game boats, particularly those with several decks or game towers, and complementing the 300-tonne capacity marine travel lift. "We are the destination for boat maintenance and have again lifted the standard for visiting boats catering to every need of Owners, Guests, Captains and Crews," stated Tony Longhurst, owner of The Boat Works.

And a Queensland boatbuilder has been busy in the USA. Leading luxury motor yacht manufacturer, Maritimo, has celebrated a spectacular return to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show with Maritimo owners, VIP guests, and media from throughout the United States in attendance, to witness the North American Launch of the new M55 Flybridge Motor Yacht and S55 Sedan Motor Yacht. The two new models were the talk of the docks, and underpinned this year's FLIBS as one of the brand's most successful boat shows in recent memory.

A new boat announcement this week is the Invincible 46' catamaran. Hull number one is currently in production and scheduled for completion by Spring 2022. Invincible, the premium saltwater sport fishing and high-performance boat brand, announced it has begun construction of a new 46' Pilothouse model. Using the same hull as the 46' Catamaran, this enclosed version is the first production model of its kind: a performance catamaran with the comfort of a sportfish and the versatility of an outboard-powered centre console.

And from close neighbours Thailand, The Thailand International Boat Show will take place at the award-winning Royal Phuket Marina from 6-9 January, 2022 and is set to attract thousands of high-net-worth individuals from across Thailand and overseas. The only boat show to be staged at any major marina in Thailand during 2022 and the first planned for the region in two years, the Thailand International Boat Show is seen by public and private sectors as a valuable platform to promote marine leisure tourism in Phuket and Thailand to the world.

From dinghies to superyachts, tenders and water toys, there will be a wide array of boats for sale and charter at the show including many of the most recognisable marine brands such as Fontaine Pajot, Majesty Yachts, NEEL, Oryx, ILIAD, Silvercraft, LEEN, Nomad Yachts, Stealth Catamarans, Ocean Voyager, Rapido, Corsair Marine, Integrated Marine Service and more. There will also be a new innovative marine market where all types of nautical products will be on sale at reasonable prices.
