Boating infrastructure was the key theme at a BIA Queensland Marina Division Business Luncheon at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron on 4 November.

The well-attended event was a unique opportunity to hear about plans for the Brisbane 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, and opportunities for the boating sector; as well as updates from industry and government stakeholders. The latter included Andrew Mahon of Maritime Safety Queensland.

Significantly the theme was infrastructure that can leave a generational legacy for boating, at a time when existing infrastructure is already under pressure from increased participation in boating.

For example, there is an opportunity to see a world-class boating facility built on the undeveloped south arm of the Manly boat harbour that would benefit the broader boating community by minimising small sailboat traffic from the boat harbour and main, but narrow, harbour access channel. This would be a significant access and safety improvement whilst supporting long-term growth in boating participation.

It would also deliver a truly world-class sailing regatta capability by RQYS with direct access to Waterloo Bay for generations to come.

BIA appreciated support from major event sponsors Superior Jetties and International Marina Consultants.
