The 2021 Islands in the Stream Series kicks off the 2021-2022 season with the famous "blast across the Stream"- the Nassau Cup Race.

The Storm Trysail Club, Nassau Yacht Club, Coral Reef Yacht Club, and Lauderdale Yacht Club are hosting the event for the very robust, highly competitive ORC fleet of seventeen boats. The race starts on November 11th off Government Cut in Miami.

The SORC Islands in the Stream Series consists of four races:

Nov 11- Nassau Cup Race- Miami, FL to Nassau, Bahamas- 210.nm
Dec 3- Palm Beach Race- Miami to Palm Beach, Florida- 60.0nm
Jan 6- Fort Lauderdale- Key West Race- Ft Lauderdale to Key West, FL- 165.0nm
Feb 23- Eleuthera Race- Miami, FL to Eleuthera, Bahamas- 295.0nm

Since 1934, some of the best offshore sailors in the world have battled for the prestigious Miami to Nassau Cup, including Ted Turner, Dennis Conner, Dick Bertram, and Ted Hood, aboard legendary boats like Running Tide, Windward Passage, Tenacious, and Boomerang. Half a generation after World War II forced a short intermission, the race became part of the fabled Southern Ocean Racing Conference in the 1980s until the series' dissolution in the 1980s. Building on the race's welcome rebirth in 2003, the new SORC, a group of race-veteran race managers, announced its management of the Nassau Cup Race in 2010.

Starting off Miami, the first leg is a 73.0nm blast across the Gulf Stream, leaving Great Isaacs Light to starboard. The fleet proceed for 75.0nm past Great Stirrup Light, then heads for home for another 62.0nm leg finishing at Nassau Harbor entrance.

Chris Saxton's J/125 VORTICES 2 from Michigan will most likely be in a dogfight for first-to-finish J/Boats honors with Joe Brito's Rhode Island crew on his J/121 INCOGNITO. Joining them will be Harvey Ford & Tom Mistele's J/112E SILVER SURFER from St Petersburg, FL and David Nesbitt's J/92 HILLBILLY from Melbourne Beach, FL.
