We are delighted to announce that David Ormston, contracted Technical Manager of Nautical Management Services, has been promoted to the full-time position of Director of Nautical Management Services and Technical Director of West Nautical.

David will lead the yacht management department and develop the commercial shipping services offered by Nautical Management Services, also playing a senior role in the company's new build and refit project management activities.

David has worked with the team on a contracted basis since 2017, as a licensed Chief Engineer Unlimited. David brings with him over 30 years of experience on a variety of vessels. David's experience, as well as business relationships, shall extend and diversify Nautical Management Services' offerings beyond the superyacht sector into the wider commercial shipping sector.

Moving ashore in 2003, David has built up extensive ISM technical management experience, with employment in the positions of both Fleet and Technical Manager, where he was responsible for developing, implementing, and ensuring vessel compliance with ISM on both superyachts and commercial vessels.

David, who holds a Master's degree in International Commercial Law, has been in the role of yacht Technical Manager since 2013, managing superyacht planned maintenance systems, refit and drydock specifications and emergency repairs.

Further to his international work, David was also based in the Middle East over a period of five years where he gained extensive vessel management experience, including Hull and Machinery casualty experience. He also carried out condition surveys, along with office and vessel audits throughout the region on both superyachts and commercial vessels, working with some of the world's largest marine insurance companies. Aside from his work in the Superyacht industry, in recent years David has also completed a number of commercial assignments including Expert Witness work for law firms, overseeing extensive refits of gas and oil tankers on behalf of Owners and the provision of technical support on operational/ISM matters for a series of ferries.

We welcome David and his unmatched experience as he starts his new full-time role at Nautical Management Services and West Nautical.
