SET Maritime and Electrical has been recognised as an ABA100 Winner in The Australian Business Awards 2022 for Product Innovation [PIA].

In their seventeenth year, the awards are an annual all-encompassing awards program that recognises organisations that demonstrate the core values of business innovation, product innovation, technological achievement and employee engagement via a set of established business and product award categories.

Owner of SET Maritime and Electrical, Mark Smith, says the award affirms their commitment to continuous improvement and innovative achievements in the research and development of their new marine safety initiative - shore connection device ESHORE.

Smith says, "I'm absolutely honoured to receive this award, and it's great to receive recognition for something I've been working on for the last 4 years. I'm also hoping that winning this award will help to raise awareness of the important issue of marine electrical safety, and the obligations of boaties for the safety and wellbeing of all onboard."

ESHORE was created by Mark after surveying hundreds of vessels for electrical compliance, and discovering that their shore connections (specifically the connection box for ship to shore electricity supply), were not compliant to the Australian Standards. Further to this, the most critical safety concern is a very serious risk of electrical hazard including electrocution.

ESHORE is an Australian-designed and manufactured shore connection device for all boats and vessels connected to shore power. It's a compact 'Plug and Play Shore Connection' that is safe and meets Australian compliance requirements. ESHORE's unique and patented electrical design was created to ensure the safety of boat owners, meet regulatory standards and to save time and money on incorrect connections.

Based in Brisbane, Mark is also thrilled to be a finalist in the Queensland Government Office of Industrial Relations 2022 Safe Work and Return to Work Awards in the category of Best solution to an identified electrical issue. The awards recognise and celebrate outstanding work health and safety and return to work. The winner will be announced at a ceremony on 21 October 2022.

"The Australian Business Awards are proud to acknowledge the role of leading corporate, government and non-government organisations for implementing innovative, well-managed high-performing business initiatives and for the research and development of their innovative products and services," said Ms Tara Johnston, Program Director.

"Many of these organisations are high performers in product, process, and business-model innovation. Demonstrating leadership in preparing for a future transformed by digital technologies in an unprecedented era, reimagining new ways of collaborating and learning, and refining business models that create and capture value.

"There has never been a more pertinent time for organisations to create value and transform workplace collaboration, unleashing new opportunities to innovate and expand competitive advantage. Investment in innovative business processes correlates to improved business performance, positively impacting organisations with long-term gains in efficiency, productivity and customer loyalty," Ms Johnston added.

Entry into the awards is open to all private and public companies, multinationals and their subsidiaries, non-government organisations, educational institutions, government departments, government agencies, government authorities and statutory bodies that have successfully executed a business, management, community initiative or developed an innovative product or service.

Organisations that demonstrate the core values of business innovation, product innovation, technological achievement and employee engagement are recognised via a set of established business and product award categories. The program provides a significant opportunity for high-performing organisations that implement world-class business initiatives and develop innovative products and services to be acknowledged and honoured for their achievements, nationally and internationally.
