SBS BoatLife has confirmed that they will be supporting the Wetwheels Foundation as the chosen charity for 2023.

Conceived and founded by disabled yachtsman Geoff Holt MBE DL, Wetwheels offers the opportunity for all disabled people to access the sea in a safe and rewarding way on board fully accessible, purpose-built powerboats.

Wetwheels provide the unique and exhilarating opportunity for those with disabilities to enjoy marine adventures thanks to barrier-free boating. For many of us, taking part in a boat trip is something we love and an unforgettable experience. Watching a variety of marine life, seeing coastlines from a different perspective and taking the opportunity to share magical moments can often be taken for granted. As a disabled person there are many considerations needed for this kind of activity and most boats just aren't equipped adequately to carry passengers in wheelchairs, or those with complex needs.

Boating with the Wetwheels Foundation is in a safe and stimulating environment, with full wheelchair access to the boats, a ramp to the steering position and adapted steering controls. The team ensure all participants are active, as opposed to passengers, plus there is the opportunity to steer the boat whilst learning seamanship alongside peers, friends and family members. Getting out on the water has shown to build and boost confidence, as well as improving physical and mental wellbeing during an enriching experience.

Chief Executive of the Wetwheels Foundation, Neil Wilson commented, "We are delighted to be the official charity for SBS BoatLife 2023. This will be our first visit and we are excited to meet those attending The NEC and to see friends, both old and new, from the maritime industry. We are very grateful that SBS BoatLife has chosen to support Wetwheels and we look forward to coming to Birmingham to share our vision of ensuring barrier-free access to the water".

Wetwheels depends on the dedication of their experienced teams to run each location. To find out more about being part of a barrier-free Wetwheels experience get in touch to arrange your visit or book via the website.
