The Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) today launched a Sustainability in the Boating Industry Award, as well as a call for nominations for the BIA Apprentice of the Year Awards for 2023.

The Sustainability Award was launched in line with the BIA's Strategic Business Plan, which has a vision of a vibrant industry supporting boating as a standout choice in leisure activity for everyone; and values sustainability through the promotion of environmentally responsible practices within the boating industry. The award recognises companies or individuals who have demonstrated outstanding efforts in contributing towards sustainable business practices and/ or supporting the sustainability of boating.

Nominations are now open for the inaugural Sustainability Award, and the winner will be announced at the Sydney International Boat Show in August. Nominees will be assessed on their achievements in reducing environmental impacts through actions such as use of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes, contributing to emissions reduction, and/ or implementing sustainable business practices.

The BIA is also calling for nominations for the Apprentice of the Year Awards. These awards are designed to recognise the outstanding contribution made by apprentices to the marine industry, as well as the importance of developing a strong future for training and careers. The awards are open to any fourth-year apprentice working with a BIA member company, with state awards for each of Qld, NSW and SA and an overall winner to be announced at the Sydney International Boat Show.

"We are excited to announce the launch of the Sustainability in the Boating Industry Award together with the call for nominations for the 2023 Apprentice of the Year Awards in 2023," said BIA CEO, Andrew Scott. "These awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals and companies within the boating industry, and we are excited to showcase their success at the Sydney International Boat Show."

Winners of both categories will receive a trophy and certificate, as well as a cash voucher. For Apprentice of the Year there will be $2000 in cash prizes towards trade tools while the Sustainability in the Boating Industry Award winner will receive $2000 towards travel to a major marine or sustainability event.

Further details and entry forms for both awards are available on the BIA website and must be returned by 23 June 2023.
