The new keel pit for sailing yachts up to 70 metres in length, built at Lusben's Livorno shipyard, is operational for the first refit on Perini Navi's 56-metre S/Y Rosehearty.

Lusben, the Azimut|Benetti Group division dedicated to refit and repair operations, recently opened the new strategic infrastructure at its Livorno shipyard. The inspection pit for sailing yachts with lifting and canting keels can accommodate vessels up to 70 metres in length. Its size - 12 metres long, 8.5 metres deep and 3.5 metres wide - makes it the largest in the Mediterranean, confirming Lusben's role as a refit industry leader in the sailing yacht segment too.

The new keel pit, used for precision work on yachts with moving appendages including lifting and canting keels, has received its first boat, S/Y Rosehearty. A sailing yacht built in 2006 by Perini Navi that has sailed around the world, navigating both through the Northwest Passage in the Arctic and in the waters of the Antarctic, this 56-metre boat built for a highly experienced owner is the first sailing yacht with interiors by renowned French designer Christian Liaigre.

Lusben has been commissioned to perform refit work on the boat, including major maintenance operations on the engines and the keel, two crucial elements to ensure optimum performance and a high level of safety. Other work included various operations on the hydraulic systems and the teak deck, as well as the retouching of the paintwork in some areas of the hull.

"We're extremely satisfied to have started work on this Perini Navi yacht, the first to make use of our new keel pit for sailing yachts," said Ferdinando Pilli, General Manager of Lusben. "This infrastructure is a major step forward for our Livorno shipyard and makes it possible for us to expand our range of services even further. After this first operation we plan to perform work here on other Perini Navi sailing yachts."
