The 36th edition of METSTRADE, the premier global event for marine equipment systems and materials, has achieved record-breaking success in 2024. Held at the RAI in Amsterdam from 19 - 21 November, the event featured close to 1600 exhibitors across 12 exhibition halls.

With attendance peaking on all three days of the trade-only event, welcoming 31,824 visits from 19,779 unique attendees representing 134 countries, METSTRADE 2024 achieved a remarkable 10% increase in overall visits and a 6% rise in unique visitors compared to its previous record in 2023.

The Australian delegation made a notable impact, showcasing a strong representation of AIMEX, Superyacht Australia, and ACMG members within the Australian and Superyacht Pavilions. Exhibitors included BirdBoss, DAVCO, Global Marine Business Advisors, GME, Greencorp Marine, Hydrive Engineering, Illumi Vases, Launch & Retrieve Boat Latch, Marine Structures, Marine Protection Systems, Muir Engineering Group, Nebo Global, Poly Flex Group, Rainman Desalination, Savwinch, Seahub and SCORKL. Exhibitors in the Superyacht Pavilion included North Sails, Pyrotek and VEEM. Evercor and Stella Marine were also in attendance.

Australia's Gold Coast led a Trade Mission to showcase the region's export capabilities, featuring DOCKPRO, Jomo Boats, BZ Optics and Maritimo. This initiative highlights the Gold Coast's dedication to expanding international trade opportunities and solidifying its reputation in the global marine industry.

AIMEX was proud to share the METSTRADE experience with the 2024 Australian Marine Industry Apprentice of the Year Award winner, Jade Ralph from Echo Marine Group in Western Australia. As a reward for this significant recognition, Jade joined the Australian delegation at METSTRADE, receiving complimentary return airfares, accommodation, and entry to the show. This award celebrates Jade's exceptional contribution to the Australian marine industry and underscores AIMEX's commitment to fostering emerging talent.

Jade's METSTRADE experience began a day early with an exclusive tour of Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards, one of the world's premier superyacht builders. The tour of two Royal Van Lent Shipyards in Kaag and Amsterdam offered an in-depth exploration into their advanced design and construction processes, providing valuable insights into the craftsmanship and innovation that define Feadship's reputation.

Whilst at the show, Jade participated in the Young Professionals Club, METSTRADE's exclusive platform for marine industry professionals under 35 to connect, grow, and network. The program included a private behind-the-scenes tour of the show, offering a unique and in-depth look at the exhibition. Additionally, Jade attended YPC seminars, including the session "An Employer Spotlight: Innovative Marine Companies Shaping the Future," which showcased forward-thinking businesses and their cutting-edge contributions to the marine industry.

On the opening morning of METSTRADE, during the ICOMIA Breakfast Briefing, Australian sail manufacturer North Sails was awarded a prestigious 2024 DAME Design Award. Their innovative cruising sailcloth, made from over 90% sustainable materials, was recognised as the best product in the Shoreside Equipment & Materials category. This award highlights North Sails' commitment to sustainability and their leadership in advancing eco-friendly technologies within the marine industry.

AIMEX proudly hosted the much-anticipated Outback Party, supported by the City of Gold Coast, on the second evening at METSTRADE. The relaxed event welcomed both familiar faces and new business connections, offering industry professionals an informal setting to network and engage. Guests enjoyed a selection of South Australian Chardonnay and Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon.

The International Boat Builders Awards concluded the three-day METSTRADE show, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the respected event. Riviera Australia was awarded the impressive People and Skills Development Award, recognising Riviera's commitment to cultivating the next generation of marine professionals through its Academy of Excellence. Notably, one-sixth of Riviera's workforce comprises apprentices, reflecting the company's dedication to fostering talent and ensuring the future of the Australian boatbuilding industry.

At the conclusion of this year's METSTRADE show, Director Niels Klarenbeek unveiled the event's updated brand imaging, "Propelling Growth. Harbouring Innovation." This new branding reflects METSTRADE's continued commitment to fostering growth within the marine industry while embracing cutting-edge innovation. Klarenbeek also shared exciting plans for METSTRADE 2025, which will include an expansion into Hall 8, adding approximately 10,000m" of space to accommodate the growing demand for the Superyacht Pavilion, which currently has an extensive waiting list.

David Good, CEO, AIMEX said: "METSTRADE consistently delivers each year for our Australian marine manufacturers, offering valuable exposure and opportunities for those who attend and exhibit. This year, a major highlight was Riviera's recognition at the Boat Builders Awards, where the company was acknowledged for its outstanding apprenticeship program".

The Australian Marine Export Group is excited to return to METSTRADE in 2025, coinciding with the celebration of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary.
