Italy is the world leader in building superyachts, making more than any other country and receiving the most orders. It is also the top exporter in the industry, selling yachts worldwide.

This success comes from a highly skilled supply chain that helps grow the economy and keeps Italy at the top of yacht manufacturing. Demand for Italian superyachts is strong, with more orders coming in and a bright future for the industry.

Alessandro Dario, Maxwell Sales Manager - Superyacht Division Italy, explains why shipyards rely on Maxwell's anchoring solutions, trusting some key factors such as responsiveness, technical expertise, and a global service network.

What drew you to the yachting and shipyard industry?

I was immediately fascinated by this sector, where I have been working for the past few years. I started by gaining experience related to onboard electronic systems, which gave me a keen eye for customization and shipyard-specific requirements. At Maxwell, I manage SuperYachts projects for the Italian market—an exciting challenge that I'm thrilled to be part of.

What makes shipyards choose Maxwell over other anchoring system providers, what are your current projects?

Shipyards choose Maxwell over other anchoring system providers because of our ability to respond quickly to their needs and customize solutions for each project. Unlike standard products, our systems are designed specifically for the hull, available space, and overall dimensions of each yacht. As owners demand more onboard living space, shipyards face the challenge of optimizing every area, including anchoring systems. This makes it essential to develop smart, technical, and space-efficient solutions.

Another key factor is our in-house R&D department, which has nearly 60 years of experience in designing high-quality anchoring systems. This expertise has earned us the trust of shipyards worldwide, including the honor of supplying the anchoring system for the only 100-meter yacht currently under construction in Italy.

'For captains and crew, having access to expert assistance wherever the yacht is sailing is invaluable'

How important is the support of a global network?

Maxwell's extensive network of certified service partners ensures reliable support for clients worldwide. For captains and crew, having access to expert assistance wherever the yacht is sailing is invaluable. This global reach is a significant advantage for shipyards, providing seamless support for high-value projects and ensuring the longevity and performance of our anchoring systems.

What are the main advantages for Italian shipyards?

We collaborate with almost the whole Italian yacht industry. Our close relationships with shipyards, designers and technical teams make us a trusted partner, especially in Italy, where yacht builders demand high customization and engineering expertise. We work hand in hand with shipyards, starting from the mooring plan and 3Ds to integration of the systems on the superstructure.

Maxwell is now being selected for increasingly large yacht projects. What's driving this trend?

We are currently involved in projects for yachts up to and over 100 meters in length, which proves the trust that major shipyards place in Maxwell's expertise. With more than 50 years of experience in supplying the best shipyards in Italy but also in Northern Europe and major shipbuilders around the world, we aim to consolidate and become a strategic partner, for the most ambitious projects our clients are now pursuing.

How do you see market trends evolving, and what is your outlook for the future of the industry?

While the smaller yacht segment is experiencing some fluctuations, the superyacht market remains exceptionally strong. We are seeing sustained growth, with an increasing number of collaborations and projects already scheduled for the next five years. This steady expansion highlights the demand for innovative partners like Maxwell, who can support shipyards in meeting ambitious design and technical challenges. With nearly 60 years of expertise, Maxwell continues to lead in custom anchoring solutions, delivering advanced technologies like the Retractable Arm System and Submarine Anchor System to optimize space and performance. As the industry evolves, we remain committed to driving innovation and supporting the next generation of superyacht design.

'Feel free to reach out to discuss your anchoring needs. I'd be happy to connect and explore the best solutions together.'
