As Australians prepare to enjoy the Easter long weekend, the Boating Industry Association (BIA) anticipates a surge in recreational boating activity across the nation's waterways.

"Easter is a cherished time for many Australians," says Andrew Fielding, CEO of the BIA. "It's a chance to relax, reconnect with loved ones, and enjoy the incredible natural beauty our country has to offer. For many, that means heading to the coast, rivers, and lakes to experience the joy of boating." The BIA recognises the significant social and economic value that boating contributes to Australia. With almost 1 in 5 Australian households owning a boat or some form of watercraft, and with approaching 1 million registered boats nationally, it's clear that enjoying time on the water is a fundamental part of our national identity. Beyond providing leisure and recreation, boating fosters community connection and promotes mental wellbeing.

More than 3,500 highly skilled Marine Rescue NSW volunteers are ready to respond to boaters needing assistance this Easter long weekend. "From the Tweed, right along the east coast to Eden, and inland on the Alpine Lakes and Murray River at Moama, our volunteers are prepared to be deployed at any time of the day or night this Easter period," said Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Alex Barrell. Crews had their busiest Easter ever last year, completing 163 search and rescue missions over the four days and safely returning almost 450 people to shore.

The multi-billion dollar boating industry in Sydney is gearing up for an exciting 2025 with the announcement of two distinct boat shows, both presented in a new format by the BIA, in partnership with its event delivery partner Mulpha Events. The first event, the Sydney Boat Show, will take place 14-17 August at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park. This show will make the most of the expansive indoor venue as well as the substantial outdoor areas to showcase a comprehensive range of boat accessories and gear. Then the Sydney International On-Water Boat Show will be held at Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour, 13-16 November.

Meanwhile, Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) is heading to AGFEST from 2-4 May with their biggest and most comprehensive display yet. Covering 6,000 square metres, this year's site will feature boats, personal watercraft, boating equipment and fishing gear, all aimed at engaging both seasoned boaters and those new to the water. The MAST team will be on-site across all three days to answer questions, provide advice and talk about everything boating. You'll find them on Seventh and Eighth Avenue, between North and Main Streets.

Boating Careers and the Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) have just signed a new collaboration agreement with the Australian College of Pioneers (ACP) to attract and support international students looking to build a career in the Australian boating industry. This initiative marks a significant milestone for the marine sector, with ACP becoming the first RTO in Australia to have the MEM40222 Certificate IV in Boating Services on scope for international students. The program's first intake of students is set to commence on April 28th, opening a brand-new talent pipeline for marine employers across the country.

Returning to exhibit at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, Palm Beach Motor Yachts will celebrate 30 years of yachting excellence with owners and loyal followers of the brand. This edition will be their 26th appearance at SCIBS, which Founder and CEO, Mark Richards describes as a hugely important show: "Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is one of my favourite boat shows for its location, the weather, and the quality crowds."

SailGP, the world's most exciting racing on water, is excited to introduce SailGP+ - a revamped fan loyalty and membership program. This free platform offers fans exclusive content, special offers, and top-tier competitions. As the community platform of the cutting-edge sports and entertainment property, SailGP+ will offer the rapidly growing global fanbase of the Rolex SailGP Championship the opportunity to go behind the scenes of the sport, with a range of benefits putting them at the heart of the action.
