Blue Sea Systems®, the industry leader in quality marine electrical components for safety, reliability and performance, today announced that all battery disconnect switches and relays with switches are transitioning from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1107 standards to the new American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) C-7 standards, which will be the primary standard, aligning with updated industry requirements.

"With decades of unparalleled leadership in marine and RV electrical systems, Blue Sea Systems continues to set the benchmark for safety and innovation," said John Bennett, VP and General Manager, Power Systems at Navico Group. "By embracing the ABYC C-7 standards, we are committed to providing the highest quality battery management systems, ensuring product excellence, reliability, and enhanced safety for both OEMs and end consumers."

Key Differences between ABYC C-7 and UL 1107:

  • Higher Safety Standards - ABYC C-7 introduces enhanced electrical and mechanical testing criteria, ensuring improved performance under real-world marine conditions.
  • Improved Durability - New testing protocols better reflect long-term marine use, including exposure to vibration, extreme temperatures, and moisture.
  • Consistent compliance - ABYC C-7 aligns with modern boat-building regulations, making compliance simpler and more standardized across the marine industry.

"With the transition to ABYC C-7 standards, some electrical ratings may appear lower due to stricter and more realistic testing conditions," added Bennett. "These harsher tests provide a more conservative rating, reflecting our commitment to real-world performance and reliability. Despite these lower stated ratings, our products continue to lead the industry, exceeding performance expectations in actual marine environments."
