This National Volunteer Week, Marine Rescue NSW celebrate the vital contributions of volunteers who generously give their time to support our communities.

In New South Wales, the safety of the boating public is underpinned by the commitment of 3,500 Marine Rescue NSW volunteers.

Over the past year, these skilled and selfless individuals have carried out over 4,500 search and rescue missions, safely returning more than 10,000 people to shore. But their work doesn't stop there.

Marine Rescue NSW's dedicated radio operators have handled more than 240,000 radio calls and maintained a vigilant watch over 75,000 vessels that Logged On with the service. Their round-the-clock commitment plays a crucial role in ensuring boaters return home safely.

As a not-for-profit organisation, Marine Rescue NSW relies on both government support and the generous contributions of the boating community and industry partners.

You can support the dedicated volunteers of Marine Rescue NSW in many ways including by promoting safe boating practices and integrating safety awareness into customer interactions and business operations to ensure boaters are well-prepared before heading out

  • Encourage customers to Log On and Off with Marine Rescue NSW using their free app or VHF Channel 16, ensuring they are monitored for a safe return.
  • Provide information on lifejackets, emergency communication devices, and safe boating practices to all boat owners, whether purchasing a new vessel, booking a service, or securing a marina berth.
  • Emphasise the importance of fuel, battery, and engine maintenance - with 60% of rescues caused by preventable mechanical failures, proactive maintenance can significantly reduce rescue incidents.

Let's work together to protect the boating community we all serve.
