International 14 European Championship 2025 at Segelclub-Eckernförde - Day 2

by Mark Tait 27 Aug 03:42 PDT 24-29 August 2025

Despite a light forecast the fleet were released on time for a drift in the Eckernforde fjord, fortunately after a relatively short wait the fleet were sent back in by the race officer having found the wind too unstable and too soft for racing. The long wait ensued, made easier with provision of pizza and coaching session from world champion Andy Shaw.

Just before the 3:30 decision cut off the wind switched round and filled in from the more stable NE direction at about 6 knots and D flag came down.

A clean start was very welcome to get proceedings under way with Glen and Ed leading a large group out from the pin on the port biased line, that included the top 4 boats overall; Andy and Rob, Martin & Harry and Oli and Eike, whilst further towards the committee Douglas and Mark were going well with space. There proceeded a game of picking your way through the shifts and pressure to get to the windward mark, which Glen and Ed came out best, followed by Inga and Philipp then Emma and Jan having both put together a fantastic first beat, by the end of the first lap, Mark and Douglas had pulled through to second and Andy and Rob were up to third.

Following a tense final lap the top three remained whilst Martin and Harry displaced Inga and Philipp from fourth just before the finish.

Wednesday's target is for 3 races to catch up the missed race.
