With six races now in the books as of the middle day of the Apotea J/70 European Championship, a new leader has emerged: Luis Martin Cabiedes's Noticia of Spain.
With a 4,1 on Thursday, and now taking into effect the discard, Noticia holds advantage on the tiebreaker over Ralph Rosa's Mindset of Brazil at 33 points. Vasco Serpa's Solyd of Portugal posted a pair of second-place finishes on the day to leap up to third overall at 39 points.
Hosted by the Royal Swedish Yacht Club (KSSS) with racing off the island of Sandhamn, light and fickle breeze tested competitors as the first attempt at race five was abandoned due to a drop in pressure. With 10 total races planned, teams have passed the halfway point of the Championship. Herman Horn-Johannessen's Fjärlett (NOR) continued his hold of the 35-boat Corinthian Division, as did Yann Inghilesi's Ciclone in the nine-boat One Pro Division.
Keeping up their solid regatta in race five was John de Champs's Lexie (SWE), ahead of Serpa's Solyd (POR) and Doug Rastello's Good to Go (USA). And continuing their climb up the podium in the next contest were Cabiedes's Noticia (ESP), Serpa's Solyd (POR) and Anton Dahlberg's Sail Racing (SWE).
Racing continues through Saturday for 64 boats from 17 nations: AUS, BRA, DEN, ESP, FIN, FRA, GBR, GER, IRL, ITA, MON, NOR, POR, SUI, SWE, TUR, USA.
