The BIA team in South Australia attended the Adelaide Careers and Employment Expo over three days in early May, which was attended by more than 18,500 students, young people and job seekers, exploring opportunities from more than 250 employers/employer groups.
The BIA team joined forces with Australian Institute of Engineering, BIA Partner for skills and training, represented by Brett Ambrosio.
AIE ran live 3D printing of model boats on the stand which was a great way to engage our audience. Thanks also to Lenta Marine for the loan of a 3.5m Takacat RIB, a great draw to the stand, as was the very instructive boat mould plug and shell on loan from Dockyard.
Enquiries across all three days were strong, with good interest in key areas of shipwright and marine mechanic apprenticeships, plus several university students reading mechanical engineering and naval architecture, seeking opportunities in design offices. The new BIA Marine Careers Guide provided an excellent and in-depth explanation of all the industry has to offer and was well received.
