British Marine Electrical & Electronics Association recognises Barrus for its commitment to sustainable innovation and responsible business practices.

Barrus has won the Electrical & Electronics Association Sustainability Award at the British Marine Sector Association Awards, presented during Seawork 2026, in recognition of its ongoing work to improve sustainability across its operations.

The award highlights Barrus' broad approach to sustainability, combining lower-impact product development with practical steps to reduce the environmental footprint of its day-to-day business.

In recent years, the company has expanded its portfolio of low-impact propulsion solutions, including the Mercury Avator electric outboard range and Hybrid Marine propulsion systems, giving customers practical alternatives that help reduce emissions. Barrus has also worked to cut plastic packaging across its product ranges and achieved Marpol certification across the full August Race portfolio.

Alongside product innovation, Barrus has introduced operational improvements to lower its environmental impact, including a partnership with waste management specialist Axil to strengthen recycling processes and a transition towards hybrid vehicles across its fleet.

A major part of this work is the development of a hydrogen fuel cell narrowboat, created as a test platform for emerging technologies that could help reduce emissions in the marine sector. The project allows Barrus to assess and demonstrate new solutions as they become commercially viable.

Commenting on the award, Graham Knox, CEO at Barrus, said:

"We are delighted to receive this recognition from the British Marine Electrical & Electronics Association. Sustainability is integral to our business strategy, and we remain committed to improving both our products and our processes. This award reflects the dedication of our teams and partners in driving positive environmental change across the marine industry."

Barrus continues to look for new ways to strengthen the environmental credentials of its operations and product ranges. Beyond marine, the company also supports sustainability through its electric lawn and garden equipment and electric mobility solutions.

This latest award underlines Barrus' commitment to innovation, responsible business practices and supporting the marine industry's transition to a more sustainable future.
