New tariffs of 10% or 12.5%, depending on the country, levied under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, took effect Friday, July 24, 2026, at 12:01 AM ET on most imports from 60 different economies.
This leaves no time gap between the expiration of universal 10% Section 122 tariffs, which expired at the same time. A three-day "in transit" window is however provided, as well as product-specific carve-outs, both broadly and on a country-by-country basis for a small number of economies.
Of particular note to the recreational fishing industry, the action imposes a 10% duty on imports from Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Guatemala, and a 12.5% duty on imports from China, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic.
