The best of both worlds: Silent electric cruising with trusted diesel performance

VETUS, a global leader in marine propulsion and onboard systems, is proud to introduce its all-new hybrid propulsion solution for its M-Line 2-cylinder diesel engines, offering boaters a seamless combination of silent electric cruising and dependable diesel power.

The VETUS Hybrid Set is designed for both retrofit projects and new builds, making it easy to add hybrid capability to a compatible VETUS M-Line 2-cylinder engine, without replacing an existing propulsion setup. For new propulsion systems, the Hybrid Set enables electric cruising from the start.

The VETUS hybrid system allows boaters to navigate silently through inner-city waterways, marinas and environmentally sensitive areas using electric propulsion alone. When higher speeds or greater endurance are required, the diesel engine can be engaged instantly, combining instant torque for quick maneuvers with the endurance and extended range needed for longer journeys.

Developed in-house for seamless integration

Engineered entirely in-house and backed by decades of expertise in both diesel engines and electric propulsion, the M2HSET hybrid system is engineered to integrate seamlessly with any M-Line 2-cylinder diesel engines: M2.13 and M2.18.

Every aspect of the system from RPM and gear ratio to cruising speed and operational efficiency, has been carefully optimised to create a refined and intuitive boating experience, smooth operation, dependable performance and maximum efficiency.

Flexible installation, future-ready boating

Designed for hassle-free operation, shore power is not essential. The battery bank connected to the electric motor is automatically recharged whenever the diesel engine is running, ensuring continuous usability without dependency on external charging infrastructure.

With two distinct operating modes, boaters can enjoy complete freedom on the water:

Electric-Only Mode
Perfect for slow cruising, marinas and eco-sensitive areas. Silent, zero-emission and fuel-free operation. With more areas becoming green zones, with only electric boats allowed, boating with a hybrid vessel offers superior mobility and freedom.

Diesel-Only Mode
Activated for higher speeds or longer passages. While running, the diesel engine regenerates up to 30 amps to recharge the battery bank.

When operating on the diesel engine, the electric motor functions as a generator: the rotating prop-shaft drives the electric motor, allowing energy to be recovered and the battery bank to be recharged. In this way, available energy is used as efficiently as possible, extending your electric cruising time.

The electric motor is connected to the prop-shaft via a serpentine belt, while a specially engineered pulley provides the optimal reduction ratio. This ensures that the motor speed is perfectly matched to the propeller, guaranteeing efficient and reliable power transmission in both electric and diesel modes.

This dual-mode approach offers the perfect balance between sustainability and practicality, making hybrid boating more accessible than ever.

ELPS2H Hybrid Control Lever

To complement the hybrid system, VETUS introduces the ELPS2H, the dedicated side-mounted V-CAN control lever designed specifically for hybrid propulsion.

Built for safety, precision and ease of use, the ELPS2H includes a neutral safety switch as standard, ensuring the motor can only be engaged under safe operating conditions while delivering smooth, intuitive control between propulsion modes.

Sander Gesink, Marketing Director at VETUS said: "The M2HSET hybrid system offers boaters a practical pathway to lower-emission boating without compromising on range, power or reliability. Delivering innovative solutions that make boating easier is our priority, making time spent on the water more efficient and more enjoyable. Following the M-Line 2 launch, additional VETUS Hybrid Sets will follow, with higher power ranges to suit even more boats."
