Effective March 13 the Government of Canada has imposed 25 percent tariffs on $29.8 billion in products imported from the U.S. including fishing rods, hooks, nets, lines, and other tackle.
While negotiations between the two countries continue and may lead to an easing of these tariffs, the newly announced retaliatory tariffs are in effect. In the announcement, Canada explained that these new countermeasures would remain in place until the U.S. eliminates its tariffs against Canadian steel and aluminum products.
The Trump administration's reinstated Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum imports take effect this week, imposing a 25% tariff on all imported steel and aluminum. In response, the European Union announced today $28 billion-worth in retaliatory tariffs, which includes recreational boats. Canada also announced retaliatory measures on $21 billion worth of U.S. goods. Frank Hugelmeyer, President and CEO of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, released a statement in response to the EU's retaliatory tariffs on recreational boats.
The National Women's Sailing Association (NWSA) is expanding its conference, presented by American Sailing, to three days. The Newport International Boat Show presented by BankNewport have announced that the 54th Show will take place September 11 through 14 at the Newport Yachting Center in downtown Newport, Rhode Island. It is with profound sadness that Northrop & Johnson announced the passing of their beloved Yacht Broker colleague and friend, Paul Daubner. Paul peacefully passed away on March 12 after a two year stage 4 cancer journey, with his devoted wife, Kimberly, by his side. A revered member of the yachting industry, Paul dedicated more than 30 years to the sea, as a private and charter captain, technical superintendent, yacht and project manager, and, ultimately, as a highly respected yacht broker and mentor to the brokerage community.
